You need cam bearing installing tools. It's a long shaft that has a cam bearing chuck on the end. You slide the tool through the bearing bores to the back. Slip the cam bearing over the chuck and twist it snug against the bearing. push it against the back cam bore, slide the centering cone against the front cam bore and tap the bearing into the bore. (Make sure the oiler hole in the bearing lines up with the oiler hole in the cam bore. Repeat the process for the rest of em' . The front bearing goes in with a "shorty" bearing installer. Might be able to rent one. Or take your block to a machine shop and let them do it.Quote:

just adding to what pro said, make sure you install the bearings in the correct locations meaning , there should be directions on the box that tell you which bearing goes where by a stamped number on the bearing. #1 bearing is the largest #2and #5 are the same but smaller and #3 and #4 are the same and still smaller. when i say that the bearings are smaller i mean the outside diameter, the cam journals are all the same. i hope i didnt confuse you by this. its just useless info in my head.
thanks for help on the cam bearings.this is very new to me i have five bearings and thay all have one oil hole but the one has two oil holes.and wich way do the oil holes go up or down.thanks this site rocks.
Point em' toward the crank bores. You should be able to see em' line up by looking through the crank oiler holes. It's been may may years since I've installed cam bearings, but I think the (2) hole one goes in the back and shuld be a little wider?????? They should be numbered. If my memory has failed me sumbuddie' will correct me.:CRY:Quote:

the wide rear bearing with two holes is used in the early blocks 55-56, 57 and later went with the more common one hole that is more narrow.Quote:
