i have 400 small block bored 40 over, with .100 domes, eagle steel crank, X rods, World Products Sportsman 2, torker 2 intake, and a 850 double pumper, and .615 soild roller cam. And its not real torquey off idle but on up in the rpm range it starts to pull real hard.. I need some help getting low rpm torque out of it.
Plus its in a full body s10 with 4.10 gears and 26 by 10 M/T drag slciks..and a 350 turbo with 2.5 inch exhaust
If you want more low RPM torque, you need a smaller cam, dual plane manifold and maybe a smaller carb.
A cam with that kind of lift wont perform in low rpm, You are running a high stall converter?
im running a 3500..but its surges at a red light so im going to put a 4000 or a 4500 in it
All your stuff is for high rpm power, not bottom end. A smaller carb might help, but top end will suffer. Try limiting centrifugal advance and running more initial.
This sounds to me like a typical mistake of a lot of builders. They overbuild an engine for street use then wonder why it sucks to drive on the street.
i didnt build it for the street.. there was a guy with a truck like mine but stripped out. he said he could out cruise me i ended up the next town over waiting on him between here and there charging his battries.

I was thinking a higher stall converter.
I ran a Dyno program and put in your specs. Granted this is not 100% acurate but you will see the power difference at different RPM's.
3500 308 HP 463 TQ
5000 495 hp 520 tq
6500 562 hp 454 tq
Now I haven't messed with any high rpm stall converters like this but, by the looks of these numbers I would say about a 4500 rpm Stall. Right now you are locking up close to you lowest hp range. Pluse those big cams were ment to produce power in the upper rpm's.

If you limit the centrifugal advance with a kit, and run more initial advance, it allows the engine to come on sooner without having too much advance when at high rpm.
