denny - no sorry needed - you and i are just learning where each is comin from - an engine is an engine, but these are different parameters and i really enjoy the conversation. i have been struggling for two years to understand this stuff and extra eyes and understanding is the reason i am here - fun stufffffff

i believe all wide band ox sensors are heated. good to know that ford uses multiple ones, now i need an off the shelf ECU that i can completely program that can use 2

i will use the info from the heugo(??) to run the overall a/f ratio, the individual trim would require 6 inputs - one per cylinder and that will not be possible as the tubes will go 3 into 1 into waste gate to turbo or out.

the only place for individual sensors would be in the area of the piping that will be 1400 F continuous and even if i wanted to pop for 6 sensors - which i don't :whacked: - the sensor could not take that heat

really cool that you know so much about the various stock ECU's - great stuff

i think that ford and the other companies only use narrow band stochiometric, 14.7, ox sensors because the only thing they worry about is pollution and that is all the narrow band ox sensors are good for.

for me, i plan on finding best power and start that test sequence out at about 12.5:1 and move up from there and then I'll try to find best economy starting at 17.5:1 and going down from there.

I'll stay away from 14.7:1 as that is the MAX heat setting - cool stuff

the fun thing is - i actually understand what you are saying. most sensors, most not all, just use a 0 to 5 volt output and the amount of voltage is just converted to what that sensor is reading, wither it be MAP, OX, etc. etc. tack in a resistor in the line and whalla - the voltage is changed and the ECU uses it and does what you wants.

One of my precepts is to use electronics that have been thouroughly tested for RV and errant voltage, etc, etc. and making my own would require me to test and test and worst of all - learn what testing i have to do:CRY:

if i was hooking up to a harnes and/or wanted to just improve performance that would be an easier way to go than installing a new, stand alone ECU, with complete tuning software and learn it :CRY:

But, since i am making the harness from scratch, picking the injectors, all of the sensors and what i want to sensor, a stand alone ECU should be the way for me to go. oh yeah - i have to make my own cam and crank sensors where the magnetos used to be.

I have read of an airplane guy doing what you say - it was a REAL struggle for him, tricking and tricking and to boot - he did not understand this stuff any where near as well as you do.

thanks denny - I'll read through it. the more you read and talk about this stufff the more the parts make sense.

Have to stop reading soon, in a coupla weeks, i will have the motor mount done, the 321 SS equal length 3 into 1 headers, one per side, up to the turbos done and have to flip over the engine and make the intake manifold and choose the injectors

then it is on to makin the pickups. fun, fun and scary stuffffffffff

the length, the length - well they should be 42 inches, but i'll probably have to decrease that to 21 inches - the picture - is in my head, but as soon as i get past the motor mount, i'ma gonna start on the headers. first the headers will be 321 SS flange and stub to mild steel to 321 SS 3 into 1. once i understand how i am going to run them, then mild steel will be tossed and 321 inserted. at 9 bucks a ubend for mild steel - good practice material, the 321 is 50 bucks a ubend.

this is a GREAT forum, very knowledgeable and very polite. MY problem is i am going new ECU and they are just not part of the way people on this forum spiff up their cars.

I can probably do what i am going to do without much help, besides the local people i know, but i would really, really feel more comfy being able to chat with others in my boat, i mean plane, no what i really mean, with "hot rod" custom ECU's. heh heh heh

Anyone know a forum that does talk about motec, R.A.C.E., excell dmi, etc. etc. I'll keep those of you interested of my progress posted here, but if someone could PM me a forum, it would be really cool.
