    Timing

Is there any way to set the timing on a 350 SB with out seeing the timing marks. I have a 38 Chevy and with the alt, power steering and nose in the way. I can't see the marks at all. I know I'm close by ear. Just want it better. Thanks!

I had a 38 chevy with all the extra goodies on it and it was a pain to see what you were doing I agree. You could remove the belts and move the alt and A/C comp out of the way to set the timing. You shouldn't need to run it long enough to hurt anything if your just going to set it and it is already running.

if you know where the top dead center is then you can put the timing mark anywhere you want to. get the motor on TDC ,and if you want put a mark on the bottom, top or side of the HB and mount a timing tab to the motor that lines up with the mark. using an adv. timing light set the timing where ever you want. you don't have to use factory timing marks.

Thanks, I will try to get top dead center and work from there. I can get to the bottom of the harmonic balancer. Just can't see anything even with the alt and belt off. Because the power steering pump is in the way. I would have to pull the nose and fender to get that off. So, I hope this works. Thanks again!!
