I have a rear fuel cell with an electric pump to a regulator, then a front belt drive pump to a surge tank. My question is can I use the surge tank to the carburetor and if so do I need a bypass back to the surge tank. Any help would be appeciated! Thanks Mike:rolleyes:
I don't get it. What is the rest of the setup, and what are you trying to do??? All I run for alcohol is a belt drive pump, and a regulator with a return line to the tank. Only time I've ever messed with a surge tank is trying to get a set of Hilborn's to idle on the street!!!!
Sorry Dave I should have explained better what I am trying to do. My Car has a Ron's Toilet on it and I can't seem to get it tuned right so I was thinking of switching to a carburetor and was wondering if I could use my present set up with the surge tank mounted up front! Thanks Mike
What pressure regulator are you running? As long as you have a return port off your regulator and a line back to the tank to bleed excess pressure, I would see no reason for a surge tank. Does your return line come off the top of the surge tank now, or are you running a Hi-speed bypass and using it for the return port?
This is my first try with alcohol so my knowledge is limited, but the return line back to the surge tank is located on the top, it comes out the side of the barrel valve. I'm not sure about the regulator but the pressure to the regulator is about 8, it then goes to the belt drive pump before it goes into the barrel valve port. Thanks
Ok, that part is fine. Does the return line to the tank come out of the surge tank also? With as much pressure as your building with an electric and an engine driven pump you're going to need a return line to the tank. I ran a setup similar to yours with two supply lines out of the tank. One went to an electric pump near the fuel cell, the other bypassed the pump and the two lines met in a fitting forward of the electric pump then went to the engine driven pump in one -8 line, then to the regulator, then to the carb. All I used the electric pump for was a positive supply to the engine driven pump when I started it up. Once running I would shut off the electric and the engine driven pump would supply all the pressure.... My return line came off the regulator and back to the tank.Quote:
