Hydraulic verses solid cams SBC

Can you run a solid cam with more duration on the street than a hydraulic cam

for example most hydraulic cams run good on the street with 225 - 230 degrees duration and around .480 lift.

Can you get away with a solid lifter camshaft at 250 - 260 degrees duration around .500 lift?

I'm only asking this question because I'm curious to why you can run more duration with a solid lifter cam on the street and get better horsepower.

How to ho rod small block chevs pg 69, even though they do venture to say that the duration figures are out for lunch!

specifically the old l46 hydraulic grind and the lt1 mechanical. These grinds are different from the ones supplied at the start of the thread which were a competition cam (hydraulic) and a lunati cam (mechanical).
