That thing got a Hemi???

Well, a bunch of them did anyway!

This weekend here in Vegas is the "Mopars at the Strip" annual event. If you're into Mopars you owe it to yourself to get here for it next year, same time, same station.

Here's a few pics, mostly stuff that interests me, so enjoy if you wish.

The first pics are of some of the engines available, the first is a 605 cube, all aluminum engine with fuel injection from Indy Cylinder heads, $28k if you must know.

The second is Ma Mopar trying to make a connection with the past and the 392 Hemi of old. This new version Hemi is a 6.1 liter, which, tah dah!, equals 392 cubes (about). Note the high rise, single plenum, single 4 barrel. The big plastic covers hide the ugly coils.

The third is a 6.1 Hemi, taken out to 426 cubes, with Hilborn style electronic fuel injection. If you look at the tag it claims 625hp, and 640 torques!

Quite a few late '60's/early '70's Mopars are showing up with these newer engines, and there were several vendors there with swap kits for various body lines.

Now some cars;

First a nice mild custom '55 Dodge hardtop.

Next a '60 Dodge pickup, chopped top, powered by a supercharged slant six.

Then a '63 Plymouth hardtop with a big block.

Followed by a '68 Dart two door sedan (personally I like these much better than the far more common hardtop). Not too fond of those seats, but the rest of it made for a neat cruizer.

And last, a '68 Plymouth that probably fits in the Pro-touring style. Just a clean looking car.

Now a turn toward Super Stock land;

The first is probably a clone of a '64 Savoy sedan with a 426 Max Wedge, reasonably authentic looking, and very clean. Reminds me a little of my old Savoy.:CRY:

Next is a Black '65 Belvedere I sedan, again looked like a well done semi-clone with a couple hot roddy features like narrowed rear axle, mini-tubs, and wide wheel/tire combo.

Then a '65 Dodge Coronet sedan which caught my eye first because it's the same body style and color of the one I'm building. This fellow didn't go Hemi for power, looked more like a single 4 barrel 440 with auto. The red interior "fights" just a bit with the tan exterior, I prefer the gold like I'm doing.

Last is a real deal, '65 Plymouth Belvedere I, Lightweigt Hemi Super Stock sedan. Has the thin Corning glass and all the right hardware. Though in the shadows it looks like the same tan color of the Dodge above it, it's actually off white. Next to it was a real deal Red '65 Dodge A990 lightweight super stock, but between being jammed in under the awning, and in shadows I couldn't get a good photo.

And then a couple interesting cars;

First a '67 Hemi powered Barracuda. The factory didn't make this kind of car til '68, but this one was very nicely done.

Then, just for fun, an A100 pickup with a little treat in the bed.........a little red wagon wannabe!

Beautiful. I didn't know of this event. I am in Vegas- I would have been there if I had known. When is it next year? Does anyone know about new hemis? Can their comuputers etc be removed to make an old style engine out of the new ones?

Hemi!!!! Man, just the word screams Hot Rod!!!! Should I win the lottery tonight, here's a pic of the Hemi I'm going to buy!!!!!

Well Davey, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!!:D

There was a chassis dyno there, so if your buddy did it last year, it was probably him again this year.

Mike, it's still going on, it was yesterday, today, and tomorrow, though I'd bet it'll be lightly attended tomorrow. It's at LVMS during the day and The Cannery at night. For next year's dates go to www.moparsatthestrip.com most likely it will be the last weekend of the month again.

As for running without a computer there would need to be some adaptation for a distributor or other firing/timing device to pull that off.

Same thing we've been looking at on a V-10 Ford, we're going to modify and adapt an old MSD crank trigger I have laying around... Going to need some electronic expertise when it comes time to figure how to trigger the coil packs.....
