Prices are a little to high for my blood!
I bet it would be alot of fun to go watch, though!:D
Yep, BJ and idiot legislation have sure put a dent in it.
I just want to vent a little on the smog laws and resultant tests some of us have to endure. I seems there is a total lack of common sense in the legislatures. I understand the need to clean up the air, but if you pass legislation that a vehicle has to meet "X" readings, why can't you just leave it at that. Why does the vehicle have to have all the junk on it. Most hot rodders are capable of building a clean motor that will pass sniff without all the junk on it. If you drive it into the test cell and it meets the regulations, that should be the end of it.
Barret-Jackson didn't have a lot to do with it.... check out the prices that cars bring on the first days of the auction.... As for those guys who think their car is worth the same as a same year, same model car that is auctioned on Friday or Saturday have obviously never seen the quality of the top dollar cars at any auction.... Guarantee you there will be some very good deals to be had the first day of the Vegas auction!!!!
it is those collectors who set the price of collector cars. it is their game period. they do not get excited over a 25k hotrod . if the car has history yes they will bid for it. they in no way set the prices for other cars. go to an auction and look at those cars. they are all museum quality or you don't see them. street cars sell for the same as ebay at these auctions.
I think you shouldn't bitch about B-J unless you have consigned there and know all the facts.
Have sold there on and off for 12 years.
As Shine said---- The quality of cars are not your average car.
It's just an honor for your car to be accepted.
2 years ago @ Scottsdale over 4200 cars applied and only 1100 were accepted.
Shine and 34 got it right!!! I sold a car there many years ago, the list of applicants was not near as long as it is now, but even then I was absolutely thrilled to get my car in there!!!! The car was a big block 4 speed Chevelle that we had restored in the shop. Best offer on the car around here was $8500.00---the car brought $17,000.00 at Scottsdale!!! I bought a car at the same auction, rust free Arizona car ('56 Ford) that needed to be gone through.... For a guy from the rust belt/poverty belt I made out great as both a buyer and as a seller!!!!!!
If you've never been to one of the BJ auctions, just walking around looking at the cars to be sold is well worth the price of admission even if you don't even get a bidder's number!!!!!! IMO, the only better car show on the planet is the SEMA show!!!!!
PS---One other note, the last few years, always included on the highest price cars sold are a number of them that the entire proceeds of the auction go to some very worthwhile charities....On these, BJ doesn't even collect the normal buyer and seller fees, or the comission..... Lots of the big buck bidders really start bumping the price up when these charity cars come across the stage!!!!! Goes to show that Hot Rodders of all economic levels are always ready to dig in their pockets to benefit a worthwhile cause!!!!!!
