Someone once told me that the stock intakes for the 429's were almost as good as aftermarket alum. intakes. Is this true? The weight of the motor is a slight factor in this project. I'm putting a 429 in a 1970 mustang. How much weight would I be saving with an alum. intake? Also, what would the tourqe specs be? Thanks a bunch.
It depends on what aluminum intake you use as to the performance gain. Which intake you use depends a lot on what else is done to the motor. What do you have for a cam, ignition, heads, etc.??? When you buy an intake follow the manufacturers recomendation on torquing it. Weight savings of cast iron to aluminum on a 429 I would guess to be 12 to 15 pounds.
you can get much better aluminum intakes on a 429 than the stockers.... i know that ford even made an aluminum intake for the police interceptor 429s... the weight of the stock manifold was 75lbs and the weight of the aluminum was 50lbs... get a set of aluminum heads too and you've reduced motor weight by 100lbs
go for aluminium,edelbrock rpm gives good results,but check hood clearence!
