We were given a motor and trans. The people who gave it to us thinks it's a 390, but not sure. It has the yellow sticker still on the valve cover. It has 5 valve cover bolts It is a 1974 motor. What we aren't understanding is it says it is a 360CID but next to that it says Ford Family Identification: 360/390. So what is it? A 360 or 390. Any info is greatly appreciated! We need to know what size it is so we can get the correct parts.

If your going to rebuild it look for a 2T or 2TA on the crank for a 3.50 stroke 360. 390 would have a 2U, 3U, or 2UA for a 3.78 stroke. Other than that the blocks are the same between the 360 and 390. D2TE heads also a good bet. G.
Not to Hi-jack this thread, but what is your take on the D2TE heads? I've a chance to pick up two completely rebuilt for a song (casting D2TEAA). Would they breath okay on my 390 with comp cams 268H and 3X2 intake, and Headers?Quote:

Thanks, Denny. I will get them. Will do as we discussed on the intake port side and check out what I feel I can do on the exhaust roof. They are only $40.00 each. The old guy that owned Williams garage and junk yard in Atlantic, Ia sold out and the new owners are trying to get rid of everthing so they can build something else there. These have been on the shelf, rebuilt for 2 years. the new owners are selling everything cheap just clean the place out. They had several other FE heads, but no other matched sets.

Yep Denny has it pretty much covered. And man that sounds like a great deal!!!! Hope you got em. They are really good heads and can support up to 400 HP in stock trim. Anything above would need bigger valves and some serious port work. They are pretty much the exact same as the C8AE-H heads only the D2's have the hardened seats as Denny mentioned which is a major plus. Chambers are 68-71 cc's but found them closer to the 68 side. They have the typical lowered exaust port of the 67 and later heads. Nice score!!!!! G.
