Ford Fe Quistions

hey im ty im new to this site ... and im a big ford fan .. heres a couple quistions i have for the ppl who know way more about fords then i do .
i need ford id code numbers from 1959 (352) to 1975 (390) bacuz i have some parts and i have a magazine that tells me all the good parts made and wut years they where made including part numbers .. some of my parts that i have r close to the part numbers and years that they where made but im not sure if it is a good part or not .. so help me out please .. i need block casting numbers .. head casting numbers . crank casting numbers and rod casting numbers ... from 1959 to 1975 for all ford fe

www.fordification.com has block,crank and tranny numbers. Other good info also. There were a few pretty good sites that are gone now that had head numbers and others. Most of that should be listed in some of your books. The Steve Christ book and others are ok but do contain mistakes as most printed publications. Your very best bet would be a master part catalogs. These are $99 and available on CD rom. If you can post the numbers of the stuff you need to ID I can help ya out. Block castings are the most confusing and misunderstood. Most FE/FT block casting numbers are generic meaning the same number was used on many differnet bore blocks. Some blocks do use a certain number for a specific application so some casting block numbers are easily id-able. Some blocks don't even have a casting number period. For those and others some drill bits and carefull measuring will tell you whats what. The main reason being Ford chose to vary what cyl wall cores were cast into a paticular run of blocks. Also cranksaddle webbing a factor also. It depended on what the foundry needed to pour for production. Some of the later 70's era D2,3,4 blocks were treated to nodular maincaps Most FE/FT's got the basic grey iron version. The 427's for the most part got nodular caps but some did have grey iron caps. 428's had both also. I have most part and casting numbers available if you need any help. Let me know.

Yep, I spent a lot of time archiving stuff on the other forum. I don't do it so much any more, but it was for the love of doing it and having it to show newbies how stuff is done more than anything. I get a kick out of teaching.

Denny your much more organised than me LOL. I have books and papers packed everywhere for the move. Many outdated computer sites I need to tidy up also. All in time I guess. At least the house is clean. :LOL:

well my heads are 1968 free flowing ... with out a dought ... and im thinking that they are off of a 406 ... i have yet to check the crank when i got that it was suppose to be a 428 crank ( as told ) but it came in my high boy that i bought .. off to check and find numbers for that thing

k just did some better research on my heads and they are ...........................I have read reports that some early cars used C80E-H (1968-1969 390 GT) heads with fourteen bolt holes in the exhaust face, but have never personally seen these heads on a confirmed original car. Have you? If the casting number is questionable, check the number of bolt holes on the exhaust manifold face for additional identification assistance (428 CJ heads should have sixteen bolt holes). These heads will fit many other FE engines, providing some easy bolt-on horsepower.

The C8AE-H heads are pretty much the std FE heads used on everything except the 428CJ/SCJ and 427. The same casting as the later D2 truck heads also. With some port work and bigger valves a decent flowing head. I've never seen a set of the C8OE-H CJ heads either. I've had the C8WE-J and C8OE-N heads tho. The 406 was a 62.5-63.5 option only so the C8 heads would not apply to the 406. As far as crank numbers the 428,428PI and 428CJ used the IU and IUB crank. The 428 SCJ used the IUA crank. 390 cranks can have a 2U or 3U number or a full casitng number if early enough. Some counterweight differneces are present from the early to later 390 cranks. Post the number you find off the crank. The 428CJ website you posted is a good one! It's a long time fav of mine with a really good forum too.

hey thanks for the info .. im just trying to gather some wut decent parts so i can build an engine that i kno will hold up to me so i would like to get some of the factory power parts that where the best but that includes a ton of money wut i have will work ... it can be any thing i want if i do the work to em u kno .. but i would like to have the really good stuff
