I'm not much of a Ford man, but my friend has just recently aquired what I believe to be a FE-Big Block. I was wondering where the casting numbers are so I can determine what it is. It's in a 60ish 3/4 ton camper special.

The block numbers are above the starter, get the date codes, too.
Keep in mind some FE casting block numbers are generic. The same casting number can be found on several different bore FE blocks. Some 69 and later production and service blocks have no casting number at all. So it's best to check the stroke and remove a head for cyl bore to see exactly what you have. Heads and intake etc...are easy to id by the casting number. 63 and earlier blocks have a 2 bolt motor mounts. The FE has the intake and head join under the valve cover area. That's a easy way to spot it. The casting numbers and date codes you do find can help timframe the engine and tell if it's original, rebuilt etc...
