question about headers

i have been looking all over for headers for my 65 galaxie...so far i have found ones for a 66 from hooker im sure those will work fine, as many of you know i am going on friday to pick up my new 406 for the car. the 406 comes with headers that were on it when the motor was in a 67 fairlane, will these headers fit my galaxie? im hoping they will so i dont have to spend another $450 i looked them up on summit and the pictures are the exact same but thats not saying much there are tons of things on that website that use the same picture. the part numbers are only one digit off so that gives me some hope....what do you guys think and if you are certian they wont fit anybody wanna buy a nice pair of headers for a fairlane?

i dont know for sure if those will fit... depends on what style headers you've got, if they're block huggers then i would try dropping it in with the headers on, very slowly and see if everything will clear.... theres ussually 2 major things that will get in the way with the headers, steering components and the firewall

I've had better luck placing the headers into the engine compartment first, then dropping in the engine and hooking everything up.

The 67 Fairline with a "Big Block" is a very tight fit but you might just luck out because the Galaxie has a lot more compartment room.

depends on gear boxes too.... if you have the saginaw 6bolt fully internally box for powersteering, it takes up a lot of space for the headers on the drivers side, but makes steering so much better, and a lot less leaky

my steering box inst too big theres a lot of room....i pretty much hoping that with the extra room in the galaxie they will fit they arent block huggers they are just long tube. there isnt really anything under the hood that the headers have to get around. im hoping i might luck out

I used a couple different brands of headers when I put a GT390 into my 59 Ranchero and later into a 2 door 62 Ford wagon.

On the Ranchero, the right side fit with no problems.
The left side required the two front primary tubes to be altered for clearance.
An easy job that requred cutting out a short straight area and substituting a piece of pipe with a couple curves on the front two cylinders.
The curved pipe built from a U-bend.

When I stuck the engine in the wagon, the right side fit with no problems and only one pipe on the left side needed to be altered.

Both sets of headers were for 390 into Mustang.

An old trick, get a set of headers for the smallest car that particular engine was in.
Many times, the headers will drop straight in with no alterations required.

i havent gotten the motor in the car yet but it looks like they might fit the cross member is what worries me if your are looking for headers for your 66 galaxie hooker sells them i was able to find them at advance auto parts im thinking about maybe selling these fairlane ones and buying those if these dont fit

I'm with C9!! When doing an FE engine, I usually start with Mustang FE headers and modify them as required to fit the application. Many times, you don't have to touch anything, just bolt them on.... Hope you guys' luck is that good on the Galaxies!!!!!
