spreadbore on a 352
Hey everyone.
I don't really know that much about fe engines this is my first. But I used to have a stock international scout with a stock v8 that got bad gas milage with a squarebore (edlebrock 600). On the advice of other owners I put a speadbore (thermoquad) and it bumped up the gas milage up big time. So I was wondering if I could do the same with my 60 panel truck. the truck has a stock 352 and tranny out of a 59 thunderbird. any info on carbs, jets, settings would be great!
Thanks,
Bubba

The only problem you may have would be mounting the carb on the intake. All stock FE intakes are square bore flanges. You would have to go with an aftermarket intake with the dual flange pattern or maybe an adapter to fit your stock intake.

i believe at any decent parts store they should have a square bore to spreadbore adapter i've seen them plenty of times, you might even get one in a chrome finishjust because your car is faster, doesn't mean i cant outdrive you... give me a curvy mountain road and i'll beat you any day

i would drive it for a while and see how bad the gas mileage is before i went out and got a new carb...what does the 352 have on it now? i would buy a holley 4160 600cfm i have had 3 of them and they have been great street carbs. i got about 12mpg out of my galaxie when i had the 352 in it with an intake, cam, and headers.Honda Motor= 1.6L
Soda Bottle= 2L
You're welcome Mike, glad it worked out for you. Roger, it's taken a few years but my inventory of excess parts has shrunk a fair bit from 1 1/2 garage stalls to about an eight by eight space. ...
