the engine is now an inch or so too far forward and the rt manifold is hitting the upper a arm. I used part # 2222 for the right eng mt, and 2223 for the left eng mount. I did put on the proper perches for the Fe block off of a 65-66 galaxie.
I don't want to drill the trans cross member support. what did I do wrong, it has an fmx trans .
Does the trans. mount line up? Maybe you have the wrong manifolds?
the transmission does not line up.
I installed the correct perches from an FE galaxie, which "should" put the engine in it's proper place.
looks like a tranny swap is next.
are the 2222 and 2223 the correct mounts for the car?
I don't recall if this is the case on an FE, but are the mounts "handed"? The one for the left might be on the right?
yes they are handed, and can also be put on upside down!! They are put on in the fashion that pushes the engine the farthest back. part #2222 on the right
part# 2223 on the left.
If you are using a 67 and newer trans there is the problem,the crossmember mounts on the frame are a little longer on the 67 and newer that will allow the crossmember to go back a little farther then the 65 and 66s. I installed a 390 and a 67 C-6 in my 65 country squire and I made two plates to move the crossmember back a little. Back in 79 when I installed a 69 390 and C-6 in a 65 galaxie I ran into the same problem but had no clue on what was wrong and modified the mounts,I heard rumors about a 66 crossmember made for a C-6 that will work but have never seen one. What I done in my wagon was mount the motor and mount the crosmember to the trans and measure the distance from the holes and made two plates with two holes to bolt the crossmember in,its a little hokey but it works and you will have to take up some space in the E brake adjuster as it loosens it up with the crosmember moved back. still having trouble. the engine mounts have 2 holes as opposed to three on some FE engines. I have seen three types of FE mounts.
My block has the two hole mounts that a closer together. Could this engine block be for a specific year vehicle and i need to find the correct mounts?
the perches are out of a 65 fe block galaxie, mounted by four bolts to the frame. The trans is the original out of the 1966 289 galaxie.
The engine is too far forward and i am having clearance problems now with the radiator.
i had this problem when putting the 406 in my galaxie. the guy that had the motor before had made a plate that mounted behind the motor mount and allowed you to have bolts in all three holes on the motor mount i wish i could get pictures but its in the car there is no way i could describe it ill try to draw something up in paint
my engine mounts bolt to the engine with two bolts, not the 3 bolt type mount.
This may be my whole problem
Are there 2 bolt mounts that will make an old style block fit into a "new style"
blocks place in the proper position?
I believe the 66 and later used a 3 bolt style engine mount.
Surely some here have put an early fe into a later body style.
