starting with a 360.
using new rods, a 428 crank, I understand you get a 410 without any boring. (aside from the .30 over cleanup that may be needed).
I understand 410 pistons are hard to find, and the pin is higher to lower compression, otherwise it'll hit the head.
I heard about the occasional 410 pistons being used on a 'low compression' 390 truck engine.

I'm not a Ford guy, but it's my understanding that the 410 is basicly a 390 (not 360) with a 428 crank. if that's correct then no, the 1139 would not work for you.

The Silvolite 1139 has a 1.66 compression height and will work with the 6.49 FE rods and a 428 crank. It'll be a stock 410 though - not a performance engine - and those cheap cast pistons are not good for any abuse. Probe sells a forged piston for the application that's worth looking into.

Yeah, I've seen the Scat kits.... If I were to go that route I think I'd use the 431 kit. It would only require a 30over bore and would still keep the compression ratio round 10 with appropriate heads.
Sadly enough it seems a kit is going to be cheaper than finding parts here and there.
Hello you may also want to check out Mahle forged piston kits/ forged flat tops & moly rings for 410FE... excellent quality.. kits can be had for 500 ish...:cool:

Thanks alot again guys, gave me something to think on.
I may very well make a simple/cheap build to 410ish specs with the probe pistons.... something I can play with while I save up/build another engine in the shop.

Book is already late according to the publisher. I have about five chapters to go.... Probably around January at this point.
