460 Build up for 36 Ford

I am new to the forums and this is my first post.

My current project is a 36 Ford pickup. I have purchased a 460 BB and C6 Trans out of a 72' Lincoln with 76k original miles.

Here is what I have learned about it so far: The block is a D1VE A2B which means its a 71' block, and the heads are D3vE A2A which are the emissions heads, and the Crank is a 2Y AB which means it is a 460 crank. Correct me if my information is incorrect.

I am wanting to build a motor that will put out between 400-450hp at the crank.

I want to use the same crank, and bore the block .10 over just for good measures.

What Rods, connecting rods, pistons, Cam, intake and carb should I use????

Should I keep my same heads I have and just port them?
Or should look into getting some D0VE heads?

If I keep the D3VE heads what needs to be done to them and what pistons do I need to increase my compression to 9.5:1?

If you can find some DOVE heads at a decent price, they'd work ok....but, unless you buy a set just done from a shop you'll have some rebuilding money to spend on them, too. The smogger heads should be saved for boat anchors.. Aftermarket heads should also be a consideration, going thru the stock ones and updating them for some horsepower isn't cheap, either! 450 horse isn't tough to do on a 460, but it takes the right head, cam, intake, and carb to make it. Set of Edelbrock Performer RPM with matching intake and a 750 CFM Carb would do well! Don't forget the ignition! I like the MSD "plug and play" units...low maintenance and easy to adjust.

For the cam, might want to try out Comp Cams "Cam Quest" program. It's free to use and very accurate if you put in the right information. With no zinc left in the oil we buy today, I'd be going hydraulic roller...More bucks but well worth it, not just for longevity but because they are such great working cams for a street engine. Ramp speeds that you could never get with a flat tappet cam. A good set of aftermarket rods would be nice, but at reasonable revs, the stock rods reconditioned and ARP bolt installed will live quite well. Not sure on pistons for a street engine, we run Wiseco pistons in a drag car and sure don't have any complaints about them! They'd probably have one for street range CR, too.

Also, get the block zero decked!!! Having raced the BBF's for a number of years, some of the blocks are miles off on deck height and have the piston way down the hole at TDC!!!!!

Thanks for the info! My budget is fairly low. So I think I am going to try and find some D0VE heads that are salvagable, and go with the edelbrock intake, and Holley 650-700cfm carb and do that cam program. I will keep the stock crank and connecting rods. but im still debating over pistons.
