65 ford 289 ignition resistor needed?

I have a 65 Ford Galaxie 500. I am putting a stock 65/66 289 in it. The motor either came out of 66 Custom or maybe a Mustang. The distributor is an old points style. Do I need to run an ignition resistor? The voltage at the + terminal on the coil(with the key in the on position) is around 12V. I assume that if needed, the resistor goes on this side of the coil?

most fords used a coil with a built in resistor. should be written on the coil. check the voltage on the dist. side of the coil, should be 6-7 volts. on chevy. they used a resister on the ign. sw. side of the coil. it dont make no dif. which one you use, but you dont need both.
