302 problem

i just had a 302 out of a 1976 f100 rebuilt the bottom pro done i got the head from a guy who had them re built they had never been ran these are ho heads. took it for the first test drive today and its over heating and blowing oil out the dip stick and the filler hole in the valve cover. can somebody tell me what problem mite be the heads had been setting awhile the motor seems to run good . there no water in the oil or anything i think the gaskits are ok. i am lost with it. appreciate any help.

I'd take a look at the PCV, sounds like it might be stuck.

Are you sure there aren't any mouse nests or other crap in the water passages in the heads?

man i hope i ant got a rats nest i cheacked the pvc and had just stuck a elbow down in the hole it was stoped up think ineed to move my fan closer to the radator tommarow and cheack the compression hope it was the stoped up elbow i just got the truck the egine was smoking tranny was out i been working on it about a month.thout i had it today maybe tommrow thanks guys.

if the motor was just built... then its going to run hot during initial break in.... you did do a proper break in right?? the oil all over the top.... thats most likely crankcase pressure, the pcv as stated by others, but also could be the seals in the heads that have sat too long...

thanks thesals if the pvc dont stop the oil will compresion cheack tell me this. or how do i tell if the seals are bad.

you'll have to pressure check the heads.... if you dont have the tools to do this... then you need to take them to a shop to check...

think i got it pcv valve fixed the oil problem heating thing just makes me fell dumb i took the fan off a mustang put on the truckof course the mustang had the single belt turned the fan backwards from what i need it was nice shinny six bladed fan look good but wont cool my truck worth a damn.thanks for the help guys.

haha yeah, thats one thing that'll do it... gotta have the blades goin the right way or else it wont pull any air

Did the fan thing with a 327 in a Vega, used the Vega fan and it turned backwards. D'oh!

I just put the old four bladed fan back on i might try that it would probley cool better like that.till get the right six blad the cooler the better on the new egine.the rebuild has brock me for now. ineed a good 4bl intake and carb running the two for now.want get it brock in first.
