5.0 Smog pump Removal
1990 5.0
Getting ready to get rid of the Smog pump.
Purchased the kit with bracket and pulley from Summit
Other than getting rid of the pump, what is needed to insure that everything is closed up.
I would imagine that you can't just disconnect the hoses and everything will be fine.
What else needs to be done?

Craig, the hoses that go into the exhaust manifolds or headers will need to be blocked as well. I think or thought that on the pump and belt itself you can just take it and the bracket off and that belt unless it's a serpetine....www.streamlineautocare.com
If you wan't something done right, then you have to do it yourself!

It's the serpintine belt.
There are two metal tubes comming from the rear of the engine.
Iwas wondering what folks used to close them off

well that depends.... if they're threaded already you can fit some smaller size threaded expansion plugs, same ones you already use in your heads..... if its not threaded, then tap it and put expansion plugs in there.... i think the hole size is 5/16 but i'm not positive.... been a whilejust because your car is faster, doesn't mean i cant outdrive you... give me a curvy mountain road and i'll beat you any day

Thesals has the idea. Find some threaded fittings to go in there kind of like the ones that block off certain lines on the carb....
Good luck!www.streamlineautocare.com

if you look at the pipe the comes off of the back of the heads there is a fitting were it goes from metal to rubber. take that fitting bend it together and weld it up.

as far as the belt goes u just take the pump off and go to a smaller belt.
In our neighborhood, 2 blocks down the hill was a gas station that (to me) all the cool car guys hung out there. 32 coupes, 33 & 34 Fords as well, a sweet 56 Ford Beach wagon that was setup gasser...
How did you get hooked on cars?
