Thames Update 6/26/2010

... the last two weeks have seen more progress in our attempt to see completion by the end of September

... the transmission crossmember has been modified to house and support the brake booster and master cylinder

... strengthening gussets were fabricated and the unit has been installed into the chassis

... floor and firewall modifications have been made ... pedal arm assembly is in place ... just waiting of the brake pedal itself to arrive

... the Hurst V-Matic shifter and console have been positioned ....... the console has been rounded to match the curve of the transmission tunnel

... the battery box has been fabricated on a newly made chassis crossmember ....... it will hold either an Optima or a standard battery ....... will also be the mounting location for the "disappearing" license plate

... the custom aluminum radiator with built-in transmission cooler has been positioned ......

... space limitations will require the use of a "pusher" fan in front of the radiator

... a shroud system fabricated from sheet aluminum has been attached to the front of the radiator ...... it not only will seal off the radiator but will force incoming air through the radiator for maximum cooling

..... we are now starting to work on pulleys, alternator bracket, fuel and brake lines, transmission and oil pan dipsticks, proportioning valves, electric fuel pump, etc., etc.

damn guy, tape some cardboard over that radiator until your done. better safe than sorry............

Looks like you're making some good progress now.

Sure is great to see such quality work being done on such a worthwhile project FINALLY!!!!! Think you've got the right guy doing it this time, Coyote!!

I did my Ranchero with this same type of ass.
And I am afraid something from the road might pop up
and hit it.

We drove the Thames for years with this type of system (minus the brake booster) underneath ....... also had the electric fuel pump and transmission cooler attached to the frame .......... never had any problems with FOD (foreign object damage) ........ maybe we were just lucky ........ to me, the biggest thing is to make sure that none of the frame attached pieces are the lowest hanging articles .......... our transmission mount and driveshaft loop are lower than the booster .......... and they still have ample clearance ......... but we definitely won't be hitting any speed bumps at 60 mph :D:D

Hey your Thames Van is looking good and just reading your previous post,you must have a photo or two of it before you started the rebuild? Sometime when it is fresh out of the shop (soon) I think some before and after photos could be in order as it such a neat little van.

Thanks for that Coyote. After I had posted that last request I remembered how to look up your photo album and checked out your photos, a very nice little van and have you settled on the final colour??? I like the orange.:)

The color will be Aqua Blue over a gold base and the interior will be done in light saddle leather ........ the new seats are coming from a Cobra replica

I remember the "Shaker" in black being pulled behind a black '57 Nomad wagon ........ and also in red, white, and blue livery when it was being run out of the Rod Shop ........... probably the most famous racing Thames of all time :cool::cool:

Here's another nice one. :-) I miss the gassers. I think ProMod is the closest thing left.
