A little more progress

Thanks Barb and Randy. The finish on the floor is SEM Chip Guard. It comes clear but you can mix in any color to tint it to your shade. It is designed for rocker panels on cars so they don't get stone chips on them. It is some tough stuff, Dan has dropped a couple of wrenches on the floor already and not a mark. Only drawback is that is kicks in about 20 minutes in the spraygun. We were just done spraying and it was starting to gel in the gun.

I'll take a couple more shots of the fuse panel today for you and post them. What it is essentiallly is a stainless steel plate that we had powdercoated black, with ears on it so it mounts to the dash support. He put some rubber washers in between so when the bolts are tightened you can take your hand and pull it down, but it will stay up under it's own weight. I stole his idea and used it on my 27 this time around, makes it so much easier to service this way.

So, the SEM Chip Guard has the texture in it? Does it also have any sound deadening or heat reduction properties? Would it be good for the underside of fenders or would some other undercoating material be better?

It does have some texture, but not super rough, just slightly there. As far as sound deadening and heat issues, not sure about that. Nor do I know how effective it might be for the underside of fenders. Don - Nice progress. The shiny bolts really stand out against the flat black background. It's exciting to see his project nearing completion.

Thanks Steve. He's getting a lot of practice buffing stainless button heads, that's for sure. He is going to have a lot of fun when we start assembling the bed..........there are 120 button heads that hold it together. :eek: The Kid has way more patience than I would ever have. :D The other night he was buffing the ones that go under the body, that only road kill will ever see. When I mentioned to him that no one will ever see those, he said "no, but I will know they are there." I guess that is why his car is nicer than mine. :D

Heck Don you tell that son of yours that he is doing one fabulous job on his car. Absolutely love those door handles and am I the only one that gets down on hands and crippled knees to have a good study of the underneath of a well build car???:cool:

Thanks Whiplash, I'll tell him. I like those handles too, they are 30 sedan handles that we modified with 32 mounting plates so they could go on the door below the beltline, instead of on the beltline as they originally went. Dan felt they sat too high in the old position. He had some 32 handles for it originally, but felt these were a little more old timey looking.

I'm like you, but if I got down to look under a car I'd never be able to get back up. :LOL:

Don,just tell him to carry a mirror everywhere he goes,so when he stops,he can put the mirror under the car so those with crook knees dont have to get down to look under it...:D..That r/p is lookin real nice..Just tell him when its together,he will have to take it out and enter it in a grass-khana,to see how well balanced it is ....:LOL: Ahh,better not,I might get removed from the christmas card list...:LOL:

As for the mirrors, I told him he needs to put one on the floor at shows so people can see up under the dash. There is a lot of shiny powder coating and polished stainless there that will never be seen otherwise. When I took my 27 to it's first show maybe 23 years ago, it wasn't done yet, but I was proud of the painted and detailed undercarriage, so I did put a large mirror under the car. It was surprising to see a lot of people on hands and knees actually looking up under there. I also put an album of build pictures on the seat so people could see the construction all the way through. Some people would stand there and look at every page. I guess us car nuts will do anything to check out someone elses build.

I don't know Ken, I think with the 468 Olds, Jackson Racing manual valve body 350 TH, 4:10 9 inch posi rear, and skinny 16 inch tires, it will probably go sideways if he twitches his little toe. :LOL: He has NO idea how much fun this thing is going to be to drive.:eek: I think it may be a little traction challenged. :D

It probably will be more fun with the automatic, that thing should fly. It sure looks nice.

Mate...youre not wrong there..all that horsepower and a 4:10 rear...It would light up well with a 3:5 back there..Sounds like fun.Wouldnt be a good idea to sneeze while driving,either would it??:LOL:

We have a guy down here who built a SBC powered Mitsubishi Celeste about 30 years ago..[Sorry,Plymouth Arrow from memory, to you guys].He put a little sign on the diff head,as everyone was looking underneath it to see what was back there.It read,'' While you are looking at my rear end,my owner is looking at yours''.Boy,did each and every person who bent down for a peep at that diff stand up quickly and look around to see if Les was looking at them...:LOL:

Thanks Ken. I agree that stickshifts are fun though. Somewhere in my future I still want a clone of the Two Lane Blacktop 55 with that noisy Muncie 4 gear in it. :D
