You know if you don't finish it you won't get paid then you won't have money for other toys.... I hate that equation but its there just the same.
I know Charlie!!! Just did up a partial list of materials and parts I need....time to get back to paying work!!! Seems I have lots of money and no time, or lots of time and no money!!! Never a happy medium, is there?:LOL::LOL:
Not around there isn't
Dave come on you should be about done with the shop car and about ready to get back on this 57 .
I wish, Bobby!!!! Much work to do yet!
Any news on this great project Dave ???
yup Dave I Know about interruptions. Been there, or I should say "am there".
Good morning grandpa Dave, you will have two little helpers that will want to help you now. treat them like any apprentice, this is a broom, one pushes it across the floor like this, now go for it.LOL.
They will never learn any younger.:LOL:
Dave-any updates on this??.Do kind of miss it Bud.
Yep, we need some updates. :D I saved this picture to give you some incentive, it was taken in the 60's at Pittsburgh International Dragway.
Don
Nice pic Don!
No updates on the '57. Been busy being Grandpa the baby sitter and trying to get customer cars done and gone so the winter can be mine!!!!!!!
Boy with the extra help you should be way ahead. Just kiding us with 13 grandkids we know its somtimes a full time job.
Looks that way, although I keep trying to get out there. Then the phone rings or an order comes in or........... and my plans go out the window. again.
How is those two little angels Grandpa?? Apart from keeping you and Pepper busy, have they settled into school or are they too young yet???
Did some primer on small parts for the Plymouth, then actually spent some time on the '57!!!!
Nothing serious, just sanding some of the old crud off around the window and door openings. Been messing around with some different ideas for roof supports, kind of like the 1/2" 16ga. square tubing, easy to shape, light weight, and adds a lot of strength. The car will have a headliner, but not the stock type with the rods for support. Headliner will be just the cloth material glued to some 1/2" foam pad then both pieces glued to the roof.
I like to do some of the smoothing, shaping, and sanding around the door and window openings a little bit at a time--it's slow, time consuming work and if I try to do it all at once I get bored and don't do as good a job! Seeing as how this one's for me, I can just slowly plod along and spend as much time on the details as I want to--my favorite way to build, btw.
Having second thoughts on the whole gasser theme for the '57....Not sure I want to spend all the time and $$$$$ on the car and end up with an ill handling, high centered, straight axle car. Limits how much I can actually go out and play with the car, and would for sure limit the car to Saturday Night Cruizin' and blasts down the drag strip....Starting to think I want the car to be a bit more suited to long distance touring and other things....Don't know for sure yet which way I'll go...however I build it all the detailing has to be done anyway so I'll just keep messin' with the little stuff as I ponder the big parts!!!!!
Nice to see you back on it Dave!!!!
I can understand the change in direction, but that would be soo cool as a gasser.
I kind of went thru the change in the opposite direction on the 37. Initially it was going to be pretty much a street rod (mileage, comfort, reliability etc).....now it's headed more in the "lets take it to the strip and run the pi$$ out it" route. I decided I've got enough cars I can drive cross country.
Whatever way you go it's going to be a neat car.
I don't know, Mike.... Think if I'm going to have a race only car it's probably got to be a front engine digger or a 125" altered--something like that anyway...Keep seeing them on Racing Junk and other sites as complete rollers, 'moly tube, already certified, and under $10K..... More thought required, I guess.
Gotta love the rotisserie! Makes getting at the hard spots much easier. After getting por 15 on my head, I'd love to have one!
Kind of eliminates those SPARKS down the shirt too, but hay you got to have some fun
Same here, Steve! Last spring my wife had to shave my head. I was painting the inside of the roof while squatted down and had a brain fart. I stood up and squished my hair right into the wet paint.
It's looking great, Dave. It would look good as a Pro-Street car, too.
Man, I wouldn't even want to do a build without my rotisserie again, it spoils you in a big, big hurry!!!! As soon as the Plymouth is gone and I have some room, the '57 will be on the chassis table and I'm going to start building my new one...then when the '57 comes off the table the body and frame together will go on the new one.. From using this one, I've learned a lot on how I want to build the next one to make it even nicer to work on a car--might even incorporate some hydraulics on the new one and for sure a hydraulic brake to hold the car in position. When you're working by yourself it's sometimes tough to steady the car where you want it and be in a position to put the lock pin in!!!!
Keep the gasser theme Dave, you know it makes sense
Never seen a LOW gasser
Yeah, but I've looked at some of the straight axle 'gasser's' with nose high and wondered how they can drive down the highway and see anything. It's one thing if you're building a trailer queen that's going to be towed to and from events, but if you're wanting something that you can drive 500 miles or more to a show it's another issue, isn't it?
