Put in a bit more time on the '57, mainly on the dash. On an earlier post I mentioned fabricating some gauge pods. Charlie and a few others had some great ideas and input, so here's what I came up with. Oh yeah, decided I couldn't leave the stock instrument panel alone either. The '57 Chevy fans will pick up on the mod quickly.
The original instrument panel will have a 2 1/16" fuel level gauge and a voltmeter and a 5" tach. The 3 gauge pods will be for oil pressure, water temperature, and oil temperature.
NICE! Great work Dave. That thing is gonna be a real looker.
Thanks Steve, lots of tedious and time consuming work to do but if I do a small project on it once in awhile it doesn't seem as bad as trying to do them all at once!
OOps, you're right Jim---I meant to say a 5" speedometer in the original dash and a 5" tach with shift light on the dash.
Dave-I missed the part when you down sized to a smaller shop.
Dash is looking very nice Mr dave.... Here my old 57 I did a few years back and sold it...
I really miss my 57... I bought this car when I was 19yrs old and never finished it and sold it... 20 yrs later I got it back and this is how I sold it this time... I can't believe I let it go again...
Good looking '57, and you let it get away twice!! Oh well, you can always build another one sometime. The only time I regret selling a car is when it goes to somebody who locks the car away and doesn't ever bring it out for shows or cruizin'. Other then that I have no regrets selling any of my cars, by the time I'm done with one build I have so many plans in my head for the next one.....
Gee Dave how you going to tell which way your turning:eek:??:LOL:
Been giving some thought to how to build some aerodynamics into the front of the 57.... I know the front end is like trying to push a barn door through a hurricane, maybe change some things around on the lower part of the sheetmetal and make a place for an air damn someplace??? Also considering some light aluminum as a partial (or full?) belly pan under the car??? Trying to come up with some ways to clean the car up without getting to radical on the front sheetmetal....
Any ideas?
55 olds has a smoother look I think. and has to be near the same size
Coincidence!!! Went to a buddie's house this afternoon and looked at his Olds.... Neat looking and would be kewl, but I really want to try to come up with some sort of plan to make the front a bit more aerodynamic friendly. I've got the weight reduction well in hand, and the horsepower will be strong, now I'd like to figure out how to get the thing to go thru the air a bit smoother and my knowledge of aerodynamics is limited, at best!!!!!
You just never know what your going to see on here
Or this one.
They started it Dave! :) The second one is just fugly! What make the 57 look so cool is that big maw of a mouth grill and the boxyness of it all, if you go too aerodynamic it looses all of it's appeal!

I don't want to get as carried away as the Pro Mod 'glass bodies, probably just a tweak at the bottom and some sort of air dam off the lower sheet metal to route some air around the front rather then just stacking up in front of the car. I had a wind tunnel on my Christmas list, must not have been a good enough little boy to get one though!!!!! Oh well, back to the water-based paint and the air hose!!!!
Now if I was rich and famous, that Pro Mod styling of Creekmore's '57 would sure be a fun one to duplicate!!!! Betcha that one goes through the air quite smoothly!!
I think your right Dave. It must have been one cool dragster!
Here ya' go, Dave!! How about a Kaase Boss Nine for the Chebbie??
Attachment 52482
Up to 1000HP normally aspirated, or 1500HP with a Huffer!!
Wow, Yeah I wish!!! Roger I went through all the articles I could find when Kaase first released that monster and didn't read anything bad on it anywhere.....well, other then the price!!!! If I sold everything else and were to just have one really serious drag car, that would be the power, for sure!!!! But, I gotta get in some more street and highway miles one of these first builds, if I were to go Blue Oval on the '57 I think it would be something like the new Coyote 5.0 DOHC... with a supercharger it makes plenty of very streetable power, and still does 20+ mpg at cruize mph....:
Yeah, the new 5.0 Coyote is a sweet package. Troy Ladd put one of the first ones available in that RayBestos Deuce Pickup that they gave away - did a custom intake for it and had it looking pretty wild. I remember a really nice F100 truck at a local show that had a 4.6L mod motor, but all of the OEM coil packs remote, a set of cleaned up valve covers and nice headers - I looked at that engine for a couple of minutes and then said to the guy, "Sorry, but I've gotta ask. What engine are you running?" Those mods (4.6, 5.4 and now 5.0L) are wiiiiiide:cool:, and with all of the Mustangs there's a lot of aftermarket stuff out there, too. I think that Coyote is going to be in high demand as they become more avaialble in salvage yards.
What kind of HP and torque are the Coyote's putting out?
Ya know,it sure sounds like a Ford guy stranded in a Chevy body.:rolleyes::)
Last I knew Dave the plan was for a big inch SBC.
Back when I was planning to build it as a gasser a stroker sbc was probably one of the considerations... No big hurry on even worrying about the engine for the '57 yet, too many other things to get done first. The only thing for sure is that it will probably be a V-8!!!!:D
Dave-to follow threw with the logic of not building a gasser and then opening up a wider market for resale,my two cents worth is cross breeds don't sell well.
Well, should probably be telling that to all the guys with the Ford coupes and roadsters and 350/350 power....
Really??? Well heck, maybe some of us "Ford Crybabies" will start reversing the acceptable norm.
Let us know how that works for ya :LOL::LOL:
Big Cubic Inch Ford gets my vote !! But I am bias LOL
Hoa.Not not my intent Dave to derail your thread with a vote.
I am just messing around Gary , anyway a car is built I like to look .
Yup, all in good fun! Used to get this way on the site most every evening, especially Friday's!!! Lots of input, and from all the bs some most excellent build plans and problem solving. Now it seems many are concerned about being some sort of professional or expert, others don't want to post for fear of the big put down... Hopefully we're getting back on track and starting to have fun again!!!!!
Off my soapbox and back to the build----
Haven't really given a lot of though to the engine since the build plan for the car changed...The body shell is taking shape the way I want it, no room to get the frame on the chassis table yet. Once it's on the table, then I'll get the front sheet metal going together on it's stand. Then set the body on the frame and start on the roll bars, suspension, engine mounts, and all the other fun stuff. Just my slow paced usual way of building.
Well when I was new and listening to the input on the frame I listened with both ears .
Bobby, I'd say a lot of your work was from your own talent!!!! Nothing wrong with the stuff you've put together since you joined up on CHR!!! All really first rate work!!
Yeah, I've got a lot of planning to do on how to re-do the frame and suspension on the '57... The old front suspension was so cobbled up I had a tough time giving it away, and the front frame rails that were on there were like 1/4" thick so I cut them off and put them in the scrap iron pile. Not sure what I want to build into the frame now, something light and strong but other then that no definite plans yet.
