Thanks for the LPG info. Did some more research and made a few calls today. Engine should be freshened anyway so I'm going to find out just how high I can safely go on CR with propane (LPG), then do up the heads with valves and seats rated for propane, then get Comp to do me up a roller cam for it! Talked with a tech at Comp this afternoon, should get a substantial increase in both torque and efficiency with the right head work and proper cam. Should work out quite well!


Did more work on the '57 body today, started putting the wheel wells in. I'll have plenty of room for 12" of tread width. Got to have the body and frame on their way to the sandblaster Monday or Tuesday next week, then back to customer work for awhile.....

Thanks Ken! Going to get all the aluminum cut and fit, then do some flanging and bead rolling hopefully in some sort of neat looking pattern. Panels will be all painted, just a bit of carpet in the footwells.

What are you running in your truck??We have a number of guys running LPG down here,,some on an Australian system from Melbourne[I think]..called Gas research..A darn good set up..Pre requisites for my new engine,,hardened valve seats,10:1 CR,ported heads,good intake,and a cam thats got to lean towards the torque side..:D ...

A 460 on gas for now...Needs to be gone through and would be a good time to change up a few things and do the conversion.

Do you have a lot of guys up there running propane??and how about availability??Most gas stations have it??

Not many running it yet, but it is available at most any Cenex or other such agriculture related station. Propane is still used a lot in rural areas for home heating, etc. and most places selling it have a fill station for cars.

I would suspect that more will be considering propane as gas keeps going up...and up...and up.....

Dave wouldn't another Featherlite be easier for you to get---they are made in Iowa, not Michigan or Indiana

Yeah, but a heck of a lot more expensive, and most everything I want in a trailer puts it in the special order and wait forever status.....and a lot more expensive...

Nostalgia racing is a open trailer with a tarp and hopefully some tied together bungee cords!!!.Yeah I know,I'm being a egg head.:rolleyes::LOL:

I don't remember the name of the dealer in Ind,but we did buy a swap meet small trailer from him.He is right next door to the factory.I do remember him saying he is the lowest price in the whole country so don't even ask for a deal.Just tell him what size and what color.A customer in front of us tried that was show to the door.

I'm really having fun with this build!!! Maybe a bit of Deja Vu all over again??? I had a '56 Ford when I was 15-16, it too had the straight axle, etc. Then I got off into Super Stock racing with a friend of Dad's and became little more then a "hired gun" on race day--though I did have a "job" at his dealership. Never got to do much with the car we raced, just be the hey boy on work nights, wash it, load things, then bang the gears on Sundays. Thought I was a big shot, sold the little gasser style Ford. When I came across this '57 had to start wondering (again) what would have happend if I'd just stayed on my own car....... Guess I'll find out now!!!!

Been there, done that...If I could afford what I really wanted it'd be a 44' trailer with living quarters. I certainly did like racing in the late 60's and early 70's, but I hated the way we had to get there!!!! More breakdowns and wrecks to and from the races then we ever had when we got there!!!!! If it was back to towing a single axle trailer with an old station wagon.....think I'd stay home!!!!!

Whether going to the drags or a Hot Rod deal, I like my toter's and enclosed trailer's!!!!

Ah come on Dave, just weld a pair of tow tabs on it and call it good :LOL::LOL:

Pulling a car on an open trailer these days, especially if it's an overnighter is a sure way to loose a car. ( unfortunately these days even an enclosed is no guarantee). Back in the days of open trailers there was still a certain sense of right & wrong.
