Thanks Charlie! I'm really enjoying this build, doing my own stuff the way I want it done is a heck of a lot more fun then doing somebody else's car!!!! I wanted the back edge of the scoop fairly close to the windshield to take advantage of that low pressure air that accumulates at the base of the windshield! To get the scoop close, the hood had to be front hinged or a take off. Giving some thought to making the entire front sheet metal tilt forward, too.....Makes it so much easier to work on the car! Or would a tilt front just be another concession to old age??????:LOL::LOL::LOL:

Dave.Any bracing on the inside of the scoop??. Just think with a salt flats run under consideration you might have to brace it.

yup, I'll glue in two braces. Probably not necessary, hood is surprisingly solid already but I'll brace it anyways.

As heavy as the metal is I wouldn't think it would be weakened by what you did...Probably made it stronger

Yeah, it's plenty strong. I did roll a bead down the center of the top piece which adds a lot to the strength of the panel also. That old sheet metal used back in the 50's and 60's is a couple sizes thicker then the thin stuff they use today! The inside of the hood will also have an aluminum air box to seal off the intake air from the underhood air.

have you looked at the angle of the hood at ride (speed) height for downforce or separation???????????

That shorten Chevy is just so wrong there should be a law against that type of build. Charlie, I do like the long roof Chevy that you are doing for your wife, it just needs to be introduced to the ground so that it can have a closer relationship with it. Dave I also like the new direction you are going with your '57 .

At ride height it should generate a bit of front downforce, nothing huge but a bit. I tipped up the edge of the scoop to move the air over the top of the windshield rather then just ramming into it.

I've seen pictures of that shortened on before, Charlie.... Just evidence of what happens when people don't pay any attention to proportion when they start cutting!!!!!!

I dont know; if they sectioned it a few inches, lowered it, and lost the top, it might make an intersting take off on a 50's T-bird 2 seat roadster.

Somehow I missed several of the earlier posts. To eliminate confusion, I'm in Gardner, KS not Goodland. Gardner is on I35 on the SW edge of the metro KC area while Goodland is waaaay out west nearly in Colorado. Sent you a PM with some contact info, and some details of Heartland's features.

rs I kinda like that short 2dr , but I would have kept the rear end back a little farther and not so much a altered wheel base .

Been doing a tune up on the front fenders. Reshaped a bit from my original plan but should still help move some air around the front wheel wells rather then just stacking it all up behind the tire! Just a bit of trimming and tucking left on the bottom of the new piece!

It all takes time anything custom requires a lot more work than stock. Taking shape real nice

You got that right Charlie!!!! Already have so many hours in the '57, and haven't even ordered the tubing for the frame and cage yet!!!!!!

Still trying to come up with something that will improve air flow in the headlight area, wasted lots of posterboard on that one so far!!!!!!!:LOL::LOL::LOL:

Got a piece shaped and tacked in place between the bumper and headlight opening. Have to look at it for a couple days and decide if it's going to work. Should certainly keep air from stacking up in the area that used to be open. Probably a stainless tube grille??? When I get the 'glass bumper built, it will be attached to the new piece here and in front of the wheel opening. Bottom of the bumper is level with the bottom of the fender opening, might be a good place for a bit of a pan and maybe a small spoiler???

How about a small chin spoiler? Maybe round the ends as the body is so round...

I think so.. it's what I en-visioned when you mentioned it. The Mustangs had'em also. Sat back a bit from the bumper & behind the lower valance.

I believe the name "Chin Spoiler" came from either NASCAR or Trans-AM... I don't remember which exactly. But, no matter. It'll work for now.:D

Thanks Steve, sat and stared at the front end this morning thru the first cup of coffee in the garage. Decided I like the first piece and determined a course of action for the rest of the front end, too.!

Funny I did the same under the truck looking at the tranny mount, drive shaft and frame/ under floor pans. I decided to ponder some more before committing to a coarse of action. Haste is always something I regret down the line(like today! ) :)

Started bending up the pieces for the front of the hood and tacking them into place.

In your first picture above I noticed it wouldn't take much to make it look similar to a 55 chevy. Nice fab work.

The grille opening will be quite similar to a '55, more by chance then choice, though.... Thinking I need to build a nice tube grille out of some 3/16" stainless and maybe build a 'glass version of the '57 grille bar that holds the directional lights??

we'll try this again----first one didn't load rightaway now you have to look at two LOL
