Don't forget to put a few well-known, but recently unseen company's decals in the windows!
Everyone uses "Moon eyes", and a couple others, but I would lean toward the less remembered such as... Honest Charley... Isky Cams... Zoom(gears)... Stahl Headers... Casler Tires... Jahns... M/T... Schiefer... Bell... Sun... and others, that would still be remembered by most.
You could also throw in some more obscure products that most be won't remember... until they see their names! :-) Maybe an ADRA decal (I think that was the Garlits effort to oppose NHRA.)... old event participant decals... Hunt Vertex ... Potvin... or?
There are some sources for these.. or you can find a good picture, print it on decal film from a hobby shop... clearcoat it, then put it on. Model car guys do this all of the time!

Dave here is an Olds Gasser done with mixed wheels, also a D/G. So there is who you would line up next to in class eliminations ;-) Notice no front bumper.

For a West Coast touch with the decals, put a Vic Hubbard on there. They are still in business by the way in Hayward, CA.

I was playing today... Keep thinking I have to do something other then the usual on the twin bumps in the hood...Stock with the rocket ships isn't even an option, and the cap 'em and mold 'em has been used since '57. I'm thinking why not use them for an air intake to an air box on top of the carbs, sealed to the hood. So, with some leftover pieces of 3" exhaust tubing I had to try... Not sure this is what I'll do, just one of the first ideas....
Dave how bout if you were to just brow the leading top portion and filling in the lower with your tubing split in half to seal to the cleaner.

Just looking for ideas, Rich. My first idea is seldom the final plan that gets installed....... Heck, I even like it when guys stop over and nit pick my work, all goes to make the finished product better!!!!! Often 1 bad idea will lead to a couple really good ones. That's one reason I hang out here on CHR, always lots of good input without the put downs and insults so common on other forums... Kind of like everyone's build becomes a community project.Quote:

Well, thanks to Rich, Jay, and Uncle Bob the 1st idea for the hood is back in the spare tubing box, and this is what I've got now.... I really like the look, and will work great for an air intake to the air box atop the carb(s)...

Just to give you some perspective.....A fellow showed up at Firebird a few months back with a '64 Fairlane Thunderbolt clone. He had the hoses from the carb cover out to the headlight openings like the original. I asked him what size the hoses were, he said 5". I said that is a little big isn't it? He said he reduced them down to 4" last year and the car slowed down.
Just so you know. Those hood openings are nowhere near 4", so you may or may not get enough air. If I did it at all, I might not depend on the hood bullets for my sole source of air. Just tryin' to help buddy.
I'll also have a copy of the little Cal Custom hood scoop. We had a discussion about flow rates of tubes some time back. These are 3" tubes and will flow over 1,000 CFM of air....which would be more then enough. Problem is getting the air into the tubes without it tumbling and jumping around... The two together should provide adequate air. Like I mentioned on Uncle Bob's post, problem with air is you just can't see it!!!!

Thanks Jay, hood still needs a lot of dingin' and pingin' but I am quite pleased with the way it's coming out...heck, 53 year old sheet metal probably isn't gonna be perfect! Shouldn't take any more then a glaze coat of filler, if that....Quote:

Dave you plan on blower or tunnel ram, the early hilborn scoops look neat just poking thru the hood....
As of right now, plans are for a tunnel ram....not sure, lots of changes can be made between now and then. As with the hood, not all first ideas end up being the final plan..... Got to get the frame and bodied sandblasted and in primer before I can start mocking things up.....Quote:

I loved the look of the gassers with those. Almost any color would be fair game with a yellow body. Just a matter of what you would like.
The only color I would avoid is making them yellow like the car, because they would not be as noticable.
