Yeah, fit and finish wasn't always at the top of the list on some of the old iron!!!!
That fit and finish was my own self inflicted mess.
But does the average builder have this many re-do's?
Check out the next MESS!
Headlight plates are canted backwards on the inboard side.
The worst thing though is the fact that the bottom of the hood would be following the roller coaster shape shown in the first pic.

So back to making another buck on top of the existing trash............

Cutting out the mess............

And adding in the new panel......

Of coarse I will need to cut out the brand new headlight plate I just installed but that seems pretty trivial compared to the rest of the problem.
Thanks,
Looks like that is going to make hood fitting a bunch easier with the new panel! Back to my original contention, Pugs, if it was easy everybody would be doing it!!!!!
I continue to be amazed and envious of your metal shaping skills! Thanks for posting good pictures that show the detail of what you're doing.
Thanks Guys.
I've got it all welded in and I was trying to get it all "arranged" yesterday but decided to stop.
I threw the hood up on the bench and will start working on it so i can get the proper shape exactly where the hood meets the new panel. If I keep going without the hood location locked up, I will probably do it to myself again.
Pugsy, you need your own TV show. Id rather watch you work your magic for 30 minutes over "Pimp my Ride" reruns any day. Speed Channel, are you listening???
Thanks falconvan.
Thanks lamin8r.
More pics of the repair area. I had to cut a piece of the grill opening lip out as I beat it into submission during this butcherfest.

Thanks for looking,
Way better Pugs!!! Going to be a lot nicer to fit the hood to it now!!!!
Thanks.
I started working on the hood to get things going in unison to sort this mess out properly before I end up wasting time on the repair.
I can check the fitment of both parts that way.
See, you only got to make parts 2 or 3 times each before the brain starts to kick in.
sometimes you can't see the forest for the trees that happens to me too, and I'm sure a bunch of others.Keep up the good work.
Bugs looks like the metal flow is more symmetrical and smoother for the hood to be fit down . You did a major change and seem to be able to adapt to anything you need to get done . Nothing wrong in that at all keep up the good work ..
