How else do you end up with 7 early model cub cadets? And then come to a new reality and have to part'em off to try and recoup some of the cash.
Now I've become a tooling slob.. end mills, staggered tooth cutters, annular cutters, horizontal and vertical mills, it never ends! And I'm just doing this as a hobby. LOL..
I did pass on the Buick. I'll just have to deal with that problem/project later on. :LOL:
Sort of back to the truck or trucks... I went to the Goodguy's site to pre register for the Des Moines show last week and had a neat surprise. My truck is in a pic on the registration page! What are the odds of that considering how many cars/trucks drive down Grand those 3 days of the show? I thought it was pretty cool.

Here's a little story as to why I needed the trailer today. I'll try to give you the reader's digest version. A member on a truck board purchased a 1970 K10 short bed in Nevada. He hired a broker to hire a trucking company to haul the truck to New York where he lives. A couple weeks went past the time the truck was supposed to arrive and he began making calls. The semi hauling the load ended up driving off I-80 and flipping in the ditch. No one contacted this guy about this truck. He finally got in touch with the broker who got him in touch with the trucking company owner. The trucking company owner told the pick up owner where his wrecked pick up was. Some time went by and the insurance adjuster told pick up owner his truck was totaled and would be sent to a scrap yard. He had no pictures of the truck and no idea what really was going on. The trucking company owner said this truck was the nicest one out of the entire wreck and they got it running. The owner started a thread on the truck board about what to do about his truck that was totaled. I saw it and ironically the truck was being stored about 25 minutes from me. I messaged the owner and told him I'd be more than happy to go look at the truck and take pictures for him if the towing company would allow it. Luckily the towing company did and I went and checked it out. The insurance adjuster keeps putting the owner through the ringer and giving him the run around. The adjuster refused to release the truck from the towing company. Nothing has happened in 2-3 weeks with the adjuster and we finally convinced the owner to ask the towing company owner if he would release the truck if he paid the bill against his truck. Luckily the towing company agreed and I got the call yesterday to go get it. Hence the issue with a dumb, broke down POS hot tub being on my trailer kicking my arse. :LOL: I now have the 70 K10 and the owner can rest assured the truck won't be getting scrapped. What a fiasco! :eek::whacked:
That's totaled? I'd say the insurance adjuster needs an attitude adjustment.

Heck, I totally agree with the above comments, I want to see more photo's of the truck but I too can't see what would cause the chap to write this vehicle off.
The owner is trying to get the broker he used to get the truck shipped from Iowa to New York now that I have it. The broker informed him today they can't take the truck past the Iowa state line until the insurance company signs off saying they are done with the truck. I told the owner it is time to find a new transport company and do not mention anything about the wreck to another broker. I also told him it would probably not be a bad idea to find a private owner operator to haul it. It seems there is some shadiness in this brokerage system from everything I'm hearing lately.
Here are some pics I took of the truck a few weeks ago. The truck is no where near totaled. Now, maybe in the insurance company's mind it is because they only value it at $5500 even though NADA low retail is at $10,200. Rusty rough ones are bringing $5500-$7k. The insurance company thought the owner was bluffing when he told them how rare this truck is. Only around 2200 of these were made in 1970. The topper is more than likely hashed. The roof skin might need replaced as well as the drip rail. The RH fender might need replaced as well. The grill will need to be for sure. That's the extent of the damage on it. The door gaps are the same as any others of these in un restored condition.
I'm sure Robert could save the sheet metal on it. But it might be cost effective to just replace some of it. The owner is now planning to restore it once he gets it. Before the wreck he was just going to fix the mechanical stuff and drive it. The previous owner sent him some bad photos and I'm pretty sure the new owner thought it was a lot nicer than it was. Don't get me wrong, it is a really decent truck. But even I missed some stuff until I saw it out side in the sun light today. Definitely a lot better start than a mid west truck, and it is a true 4x4 short wide bed which is the most sought after 4x4 of these trucks right now.
And getting to use that ford was the only good thing about the hot tub being on my trailer. :LOL:
So if I'm reading all this right, the insurance company and broker are idiots and your a good Samaritan and getting the pickup to the rightful owner who has never met you or seen the pickup? That's better than returning a lost wallet, good for you Ryan! If I have read this wrong and your planing to keep the truck, I apologize for the guilt I have caused you :LOL:
Wow what a saga! Nice of you to help save a rare classic. I'm wondering why anyone would use the same hauling company after they dumped and abandoned it, and never fessed up? Seems to me someone had the idea of keeping it for themselves, or just trying to avoid responsiblity to the truck owner.
As we used to say "There's something rotten in Denmark" with this saga. Somebody in this saga definitely knew what the truck is worth and was out to cheat the owner. As I stated earlier "the insurance adjuster needs an attitude adjustment". I would for sure find a new insurance company and let then know about the chump they have for an adjuster. And I agree that the topper is junk but it is providing cover and protection for what's in the bed.
I'm definitely not keeping it. :LOL: It has 2 too little lug nuts per wheel. Haha I'm just doing what any of us would do to help out a fellow rodder or truck guy.
Yeah, I don't understand why he even called the same broker? Apparently they are slim pickins up in NY? I told him he could call reliable or a known professional like that to do the job. It might cost a little more but he has already got a damaged truck he has $7900 in. $5500 to buy it, $1500 to haul it the first time, and $900 to get it out of the tow company's place.
I put some transmission fluid in it and a different battery in it this morning and got it off my trailer. I forgot I have a pesky heavy cummins in the way along with some other crap from my Dad and brothers that are blocking the south bay of the shop. I'm going to get it in tonight before we have any storms. I don't want anything to happen to it while I have it. I need to pull the plugs and valve covers. I do not believe the tow people pulled the plugs before they started the engine. The engine runs, but misses and will pop through the carb. My Dad told me this morning that it could have bent push rods from hydraulic-ing when they cranked it over. He used to be a tow truck driver in the late 60's-early 80's. He said it happened all the time. I told the owner I will try to get it running better because it will be cheaper for him to get a bid if it will pull it's self on to a trailer.
Please explain bent push rods from hydraulicking.

I would just like to say from an old panelbeater from New Zealand looking at those new photo's, is that is all repairable panel damage, even the roof looks an easy repair once the headliner is removed. I'm sure that there would be removable internal panels on the rear fender allowing access to the small amount of damage there too. The front fender could be unbolted and dressed up easily too I would think. The truck certainly wouldn't be a right off down here in NZ unless it wasn't insured for enough but then the repair bill won't break the bank if one had to pay for the repairs on such a rare vehicle.
