Nice lookin' shock set..
did you lose a driveshaft?
This weekend I needed to go get some wood and the only truck I have with an empty bed was this one. There's a lumber yard open on Saturdays in Monroe so I jumped in the truck and headed over. I took back roads and made it with no issues. Got the wood loaded and headed back home when I saw red and blue lights in the side mirror. Uh oh  I was pretty sure I wasn't speeding but I honestly wasn't paying attention. I was just enjoying driving the truck. To my surprise, the officer pulled me over to check out the truck. He has a 71 2wd and really liked the truck when he saw it leave the lumber yard. He was blown away after I showed him it. It was a nice surprise. :) The rest of the trip was fine. I really need to get the trans controller installed so I can take it on the 4 lane. Haha
After my wood working project, I had the kids because my wife went to her barn sale. This is the sale that her and her sister put on to sell the projects we have been making and redoing. She sold $200 worth of stuff and that helped boost her motivation. (It also means more work for me) I decided I needed to make some progress on my excursion. I got the new fender put on, installed the header panel, head lights, and got the bumper repainted. On Sunday night Allyson helped me put the bumper on. I still have to adjust it some more. I have to install a new RH front window motor, remove and install new 2 sided tape on the emblem and fender trim, and it should be ready for the streets. I might sell it but for now it is a back up vehicle. It could use re painted but I'm not going to mess with that until I get my 76 put together. Who knows, maybe it'll sell before then.
That's good progress there Ryan.
I wonder what was goin' through your mind when the lights went on in the mirror?!?!?:LOL::LOL:
Crap?
Through your mind?
Was your ring-gear puckering that much?
Crikey!

(Just pokin' the bear mate, just pokin' the bear! Couldn't resist it...)
After laying on that wet creeper that I see in the middle picture..
I'm sure you were sayin' CRAP!
 I used that to lay the fender on while transferring pieces from the old one to the new one. Wouldn't you know that it rained early Sunday morning and there was nothing said in any forecasts? Never. At least that was the only thing I left out, and I put the plastic over the inop window. That could have been a wet hiny. Haha
That would happen to me all the time before I had a shop to work in.
Get something all apart and it would start to rain! At least it always seemed to...
I got all the glue removed from the fender trim and emblem for the blue excursion. I replaced the 2 sided tape and got them installed. I have to figure out why the RH front window isn't getting power to roll the window up. It's looking like it might be the main switch on the driver's door. That'll have to wait until after we go on vacation in 2 weeks.
I haven't had any time to work on this thing. I cut a hole in the bed floor and shoved the goose neck ball in, and put it to work. I still have a long list to get done before I start making routine trips. I had a neighbor that needed a skid loader hauled, and a friend that needed a small tractor hauled. I used this truck since it is the only truck I have with a goose neck hitch currently. They were both short trips. I could have used that front drive shaft yesterday morning though..............
Ya know Ryan.... it seems you have way to much of a load to carry..
I'll just come by and help lighten that load.... I'm not much into corvettes so the pickup and trailer can come with me.
Deal?:HMMM:;):rolleyes::LOL::p
I finally unhooked the trailer from this thing and drove it to my house. I took back roads so I could try to dial in the trans controller. I got it close to working decent by the time I got to my town but then it started being goofy again. I'll have to get my gps out, do more driving and then possibly call the mfr. I did take the truck to the local car show yesterday. I also took the daughter to her soccer game in it yesterday, and then took the kids to school in it this morning per their request.
Mike, I just saw this today. I bet the site was having issues at the time you posted it. But I would gladly trade the truck for a certain thing you rarely post any pictures of that is in your "shed". The trailer will have to stay to haul the next project home. After I borrow another truck.
Rarely?? Do you mean this one? I had it out today! Had to go get the annual safety inspection sticker.. took some vacation time so it was a great day to go for a ride about town.
Cool pic of your kid headed into school ( I presume).. :)
Speaking of tractors, I had a shed, 8x12, given to me to store the cub cadets in.. last week I skidded it home, it needs some "help" of course - that's why it was free! SO that's been keeping me busy.
Yes sir, that is Clint my middle kiddo. He's the oldest son. Nice score on your new to you shed. I need to get my shed up before it snows. I got it late last fall and didn't get it up in time. That's the same pic of your traded rod. And I meant, you rarely post any pics of it besides the teaser pic of your new place a mile and a half behind it. Where's a new pic?
Just let me know when you're coming through.
Yahhh.. sure... you bethcha!
Is a 351 considered heavy? I guess I'm to used to these engines that don't have spark plugs. Them be heavy. Haha
Cool, I have a soft spot for this truck. I built my oldest son a 69 Chevy for his first vehicle; really enjoyed building it.
I got to admit your old truck is one of my favorites too....it does look good.
Hows it going on getting the trans controller dialed in?
.
Thanks guys.
Mike, I need to get my speedo hooked up or find my GPS so I can know the actual speed of the truck. Then I can try to get the pulse per mile setting fine tuned and then try to get the controller tuned from there. I had it working but OD will shift out right after it shifts in. So, I'm going to put some toggle switches on it tomorrow and verify if lock up and over drive do work. I want to make sure there isn't an issue in the trans so I'm not going in circles.
I didn't get any drive time in the 72 this weekend. About the middle of last week my daily driver, 98.5 dodge 2wd 2500 with a 24v 5.9, 5 speed with 470k on it, started having issues with the fuel pressure. I limped it for 3 days back and forth to work. I decided the first day that Friday I would be taking off to work on the 72 to hopefully get it longer distance drive able. My heater core was leaking and I unhooked it, I never took the time to install any of the heater ducts, control cables, and never wiried in the hvac circuit when I installed the new aaw harness. (Those punks don't include the hvac harness in the new harness assembly. Really??)
Also, my ford project I've been working on has been one pain in the ass right after another. The block is back at the machine shop and may need line bored. Apparently 7.3psd blocks tend to move when arp main studs are installed. I also found conflicting info about the switch from powdered metal rods to forged and decided just to have the bottom end balanced to prevent any early failures or issues. So, now that project is on hold-ish, I finally got a 12v cummins block and crank back from the machine shop. It is a full rebuild that I need to have done by October 16th. I also have a 24v at the machine shop that should be done mid week. Then I need to put that back together. My wife thinks I have a crank problem. I swear they're not all mine!
I knew my time was going to be very little to work on the my truck and with the Dodge on it's last leg, I knew I had to get work done on the 72. I've had some led bulbs and a new RH head light housing, since it cracked, setting on the table for a while. (LED in LH head light in pic for comparison to standard bulb) I got all that installed. I got the heater core replaced, installed a new blower motor, and started working on more wiring. I had all the wiring ran from under the dash up to the cargo lamp, but never finished hooking all that up. I was lacking a cargo lamp switch at the time I did that work. I had one, I just couldn't find it. So I ordered a new one. Yeah, I found the other one after the 2nd new one showed up. Haha Now I have an operational cargo lamp, 3rd brake light, I finally wired the gauge lights in for the dakota digital cluster, got 1 light wired in for the hvac control head, and wired in the hvac circuit. Who guessed all day Friday would not be enough time to get all that done? I had to go drive semi on Saturday. I got to work on it Sunday evening about 2 hours.
On Sundays are my daughter's soccer games. She has a lot of fun and I'm trying not to miss any if I don't have to. She has the pink socks on in the pic. They don't keep score, but they all have a blast.
Today, before I went to work, I got the heater duct work installed, re installed my RH inner fender, and started installing new flexible duct work under the dash. I need to install 3 more sensors and modules for the DD cluster. I'd like to install my gps speedo as well but I don't know what I did with it. Hopefully this week I can drive it to work at least once.
I really wanted to type something witty and encouraging but,
after reading all your activity.... I'm tired!:eek::rolleyes::LOL::LOL::LOL::LOL:
I forgot to mention I worked 40hrs at work, took Friday off, then worked 12 playing truck driver on Sunday. Sometime I'll work on getting more than 5hrs of sleep during the week. I'm hoping all this extra work will leave me some money to spend on the 40 soon.
10-4 on hanging onto some cash for the projects.. looks like we've got a hurricane coming so I'll be going onto E-duty, be working round the clock for probably 3, 4 days... :(
Stay safe. Hopefully it misses you. It sounds like Haiti is going to get pounded. Shoot, last I saw iw wasn't looking all that hot for Florida on up the east coast.
Thanks.. I hope it comes close enough to give us a "bunch" of rain!
Our ponds and lakes need it bad.
I haven't had time to work on the truck. I've been putting together a 12v Cummins. My sons were out with me today and itching to help out. I let them have their new flash lights and they were under the truck checking it over. Then they decided they wanted to clean it off. I gave them the paper towels and said have at it!
There's a joke in there somewhere... but I'll leave it alone!:eek::eek::LOL::LOL::LOL:
I haven't had anymore time to work on my truck. I've been rebuilding a 12v Cummins and have to meet the new owner of it in northern Iowa on Sunday to deliver it. I have a 24v cummins block and head at the machine shop that are almost done. I've almost got all the hardware etc cleaned for it. Then, my powerstroke project..... They line bored it and now I have to take the bearings down so we can install the crank and check the clearances. I hope it's done. I'm really tired of messing with this thing! I also have a 03 Dodge that I yanked the engine out of before I went on vacation in August. The owner took that engine up to a machine shop in northern Iowa to have rebuilt. He dropped it off the other day and of course wants it put back in yesterday. I'm recruiting my brother to do that. I've just too much to do. I'm not going farming this Saturday. I'm on daddy day care duty/finishing up the first engine. Pics of engine #1.
Here are some pictures of the short block.
Hey, they look like normal engines except they run on funny smelly liquid. You certainly are busy but then you probably would hate been idol for too long. Love the picture of your young mechanics learning all about ground clearance and how important the look of the underside is as the top side.
