Sealed up the bottom of the cab with Raptor bedliner spray. First time I have ever sprayed bed liner, pretty easy to do. This thing is getting so tight I think it will float. After that, we finally put the rest of motor together,we pretty much had the top end left.I had my boy torque up the heads and help with the valve train and then paint it.Next I suppose I'll get some accesories to bolt to this thing.

Love the old 348/409's, and the history of the HP/CI race between the OEM's back in the '50's and '60's. Had a big old 348 in my '60 Chevy, and just flat wore it out!!

Ya, we had a fun afternoon,he really loves mechanical things and it seems pretty easy for him.I don't think i'll run out of things for him to do anytime soon.I'm anxious to hear this motor run,never heard a 348/409 run before,the 348's decent on power?
The 348 was a truck engine, but when GM learned that Ford was going to boost their Y Block from 332ci to 352ci in the '58 model year they had to do something so they shifted it into their car line and started throwing carburetors at them. Lots of low end torque, but not made for high rpm's in stock form - they would float the valves if pushed too hard, and also pulled the press-in rocker arm studs on occasion.Quote:

Yep, in the cars they came either a 4B or 3x2's but the outer two carbs on the 3x2's were vacuum operated when the throttle hit ~60%. That's why one of the "trick" upgrades was progressive linkage back in the day (so the big boys said ;) - I was only about 11 or 12:HMMM:):LOL::LOL:.Quote:
