Thread: An International build without a Chev drivetrain!

I get tired of seeing the same old builds, you know the ones; Hey look at my '32 Ford... SBC powered, 9" yada, yada, yada. So I decided to build something a bit different - 1953 International R130 that I found in a farm yard surrounded by various other "vehicles"

I bought it for $500 CDN.

Next was deciding on a drive train, lucky for me a 1991 F350 came up in the local Kijiji ads not a great powerhouse, 7.3 ZF5 combo but at $1000 including a pair of fresh batteries and decent tires I figured, Why not?


Now to disassemble, first the 'Binder;


And the '91



Now to join the pair;





She sits waiting in my garage patiently until I get the time to get the furnace working, and get back to working on her.I honestly need a few more hours in the day!!!!

Originally I thought you were using the motor / trans to go into the IH frame. So that pic was a double take when I realized the cabs swapped places. 8-)

I would have swapped the engine into my '53 frame but it was too old and the front suspension was a bit weak to be safe in my opinion

Isn't that a '61 Olds tail light in the Edsel picture, too.....

This is going to be a great project. What is the state of the engine and the rest of the running gear? Keep us posted of the progress.

In answer to your questions... Yes the white car's taillight is a '61 Olds Super 88 4 door sedan and it is for sale. I know it can be bought for less than $1000, not in too bad of condition.
The engine in my '53 came from a truck with less than 250,000 Km on the clock but a lot of hours still it runs quite well, the trans is a ZF5 that is starting to howl so I'll be tearing it down to rebuild, everything else seems to be in pretty good working order. This week I will be getting some work done on it as I work Monday and have the rest of the week off.

No I've never BEEN a ZF5 before, and can't say I know anyone that ever was!

We will have one apart to replace the rear housing and I'll take some pics for ya. It's been a while since I've had one apart.

Thanks, I'll probably need some insight as the last time I had a transmission apart was my old '57 Sportster. That was eons ago it seems.

A lot has changed since the last time I posted; I sent the Edsel to a new home, traded the Galaxie for a '61 unibody Mercury M100 truck. I still have the old 'Binder but it's in storage while I look for a garage to rent as we moved from our place in Camrose into a mobile home in Stettler AB. I'll put pics of the Merc. soon.
