Well, here's the whole car in final colors. Did the 2 colors on Sunday, cleared on Monday. All in my shop and surprisingly very little dirt. We did have a makeshift down draft system that worked great.
Yesterday we started colorsanding and buffing and hope to finish today with final buffing and polishing.. Will post more pics as I get it off stands and back on the wheels

What type of downdraft system did you build. I am going to try painting my car in my shop and I am looking for ideas. Thanks in advance.

mprevo.........my shop has 3 bays and 1 window in each. We put a furnace filter in 1 window and hung plastic sheeting around the car. Then we put a turbine type fan in the middle of the floor at the door and blocked off both sides of the door with cardboard, taping everything tight.
This type of fan moves volumes of air. Using a common blade fan will disturb the air and allow the overspray to hang in the air and not be pulled out.
Sounds simple yet effective. I never thought of the furnace filter over the window (great idea to keep the bugs out). By turbine type of fan I assume you mean what we call a "squirrel cage" around here. It is basically an old fan off of a furnace. Your idea basically sounds similar to what I was thinking with the addition of the furnace filter. Also did you build a frame for the plastic or just let it hang down from the ceiling? Thanks for sharing.
Yes, the "squirrel cage" type fan is what we used. It moves volumes of air without blowing any dust. We just let the plastic hang down and put 2x4's on the bottom to hold it down. You can use anything heavy enough though to hold the plastic in place.
Here's a tip .................never wet the floor before painting!!!.........reason being is as the water drys out , it allows dust to float in the air. Best thing you can do is make sure the area is washed out the day before you paint.

That's great info! The body shop I worked at, we always wet the floors down. That booth had a spray nozzle system a long the walls that would spray on the floor and had a system to turn it on and off. (I'm pretty sure they were a produce spray nozzle set up) The down fall to that is nothing in that booth could be close to the floor during the painting.Quote:
