I had a HO racecar / slotcar in that same style..... it had a "wheelie kit" where the conductors were hinged to allow the front to lift.

AHHhhhh... the good ol' days! LOL..

What was the final wheelbase?

About 2 1/2.. maybe 3 inches if I remember right! :p:eek::eek::LOL::LOL::LOL::LOL:

Very nice work on the bug! I like the trans swap too!

Started fitting the driveshaft tunnel, checking bench seat clearance. Had to air hammer off some left over spot welded floor.

Times 2! I like this one better than the "van"..

Started on the rust repair at the bottom of the drivers door. Made up a template and transferred it to metal. Still rough, but getting there.

Started on the inner door replacement sheet metal. Cut out the old and shaped a new piece with a piece of threaded rod and flat stock

Thanks! It only took most of the day and 3/4 of a gallon of body filler....most of which wound up on the floor after hours of sanding. Good learning experience I suppose!

Rust repairs on both doors are complete. Re-installed them this morning

Prior to removing the doors, I drilled a small hole thru the hinges, the body and the backing plates to make re-assembly and alignment easier. It worked very well, I was able to re-install the doors by myself with the help of a floor jack and a couple of drill bits. I tightened them down and they shut properly on the first try!

Comin' along great!

Body filler is tricky.

Put it on wider than you think it needs. Don't try to get it"flat" at first. Stop with the 80 grit when it looks close. Shoot it with some rattle can primer then switch to finer grade paper. The grey primer will help you see where it's low. Don't be lazy.. Put down the D.A. and grab the soft block.

The hardest part of filler isn't putting it on... It's NOT taking too much off.

Currently replacing all of the brake lines and the master cylinder

Also made a two hour round trip to my nearest Harbor Freight to save $200 in shipping costs on 444 lbs of Tool Boxes. Two 5 ft tall rollaways in a Scion xB

I love new tool boxes.

Last one I bought was way bigger than what I previously had, but it turned out to be defective: it didn't hold all my tools!

I'm pretty sure I DO need three of everything...

Keep them coming have watched almost all of the vw bug videos, just 1 more to go. Nice videos and details!

Finished up all the new brake and clutch lines and bled both systems. Used insulation around the lines that are near the headers.

Ben, I saw a 69 Bug for sale locally and had bad thoughts thinking of your build here. Have you had any time to spend on it? i'm guessing not since you're making great head way on the mini car.

I have been doing re-assembly on the pre-fitted parts. Also been cutting out the rusted metal in the c pillar area. Soon as I get the new metal and the wheel tubs in, I can re-install the gas tank and start it up!

Yeah, I have really let this drag on. I plan on selling this when it is done....maybe I don't really want to!
