Denny from the looks of it the car would have had to have been dipped on cosmoline to do any good.
The rumors going around that someone got a peek under it and the floors are gone
After seeing that rancid stinker........ I think Boyd was the perfect man for the job:LOL:
Well, They can cut off the upper body (and serial number) and weld it on a doner! :-)
just got a peek at the latest photos you were talking about. You weren't kidding about those cops!! Holy cow!...
With all the talk about Boyd....did anybody notice the guy in the blue shirt?
A little Dupont #7 will bring it back to looking like new. **)
how ever is looks when they take the plastic off is how they should leave it !
if they restore it that would be a shame , it needs washed and left alone .
I agree 100%Quote:

That's what Boyd said.
Too bad if it's beyond even a simple restoration. I would have loved to see it come out pristine. A dramatic looking car when it went into the hole!
now can someone just push Boyd in & fill the hole in behind him :D ...joe
In one interview Boyd was asked what he would like to bury for 50 years. His answer......."the ex wife"! LOL!
John, I hate to argue with you but the Last Edsel was produced in the first week of February 1960. The funny part is AMT corporation made more plastice models of the 60 Edsel than Ford made real ones.Quote:

They mentioned "a guy who drove in from Virginia" . . . And a guy named "Brad Coddington."
:whacked:.................
It will be announced tonight that the next project will be to bury a boat......
Yeah, Boyd does not seem to be a happy camper right now
I'll be heading over to the unveiling in a little bit to see what the car looks like uncovered.
So far spent most of the afternoon talking to some people I havent't seen in years and looking at some more cars that came in.
Should also find out tonight if they even have the list of names of people who might win the car. There was some question about if it had been in the car or the time capsule (which seemed to be intact).
Here's some pictures I took of the car being backed into the conventin center.
I find it interesting that they picked Boyd to try to get it started. Half the time they have trouble getting a brand new crate motor to start on their TV show!
They should find a good ol' boy hammer mechanic from down at the corner garage. He'll know how to git er done! **) **) **)
Pat
Maybe Boyd should sit down and have a drink with Geraldo Rivera. This is reminiscent of Al Copone's vault. But you never know until it's cleaned up. :D

"If I don't get the rust off this thing by 2:00, I'm gonna get fired!" LOL!
yeah, for once the deadline is REAL!
I'm watching the unveiling, and I think I saw Mike P in the front row. His "sobbing" was disrupting the cermonies, and the tears splashing on the car were rusting it even worse! LOL!
Thats kinda wrong man.
I couldn't resist. I met mike a few months ago, and he has a good sense of humor. I think he will chuckle at that. :-)
Ya know......maybe he was crying because the Schlitz beer was in tin cans, and no longer drinkable? :-(
Still waiting for live feed, anyone have a direct link as I cannot find it on
http://www.kotv.com/
I just watched it live, and it's over. There will be broadcasts again tonight. Go to the site in this thread, and click on the local station on the top-right. They will have a listing on the times. There is a window in the middle of the screen that you have to click on for the live feed.
I don't see the link you are talking about, not in IE, Netscape 8.5.2, or Sea Monkey 1.1.2
Can you right click on it and copy it into this thread for me?
Sorry, geek speak, here is a linkQuote:

Think of it as a cross platform between Internet Explorer and Netscape taking the best of both browsers and combining them into one. Mozilla is the original source code for Netscape's browsers........

Here it is:
www.buriedcar.com
Then top right "KOTV.com"
Then the video screen in the middle of the page. When the broadcast starts it will say "live broadcast". Just click on the screen, or it may start playing on it's own. It may start in 20 minutes, since I think that is 10PM there.
Under this E CLIPS section, there is a link to "more e clips" this has some of the earlier broadcasts.
There have also been broadcasts from the link on the top left of the page, so keep an eye on both.
I watched some of it, the car looks pretty bad, i think that is beyond ol boyds capabilities.
I have the link but the last clip does not play right now. Guess I'll wait for my local news to show the 30 second clip of the unveiling.
My own "take" on the car is that it would be a major effort to make it like new. When they opened the trunk, I think there was a piece of the inside structure of the trunk lid laying on top of the contents. It might have been some of the sound deadener, but I don't think so. Some of the cans of beer had floated into the passenger compartment, so the back seat must have come apart. Everything in the trunk was heavily rusted. In a closeup of one headlight, the bezel looked like it was stamped aluminum, and had corroded so bad there were holes. They said they had a hard time getting the hood open because it was "rusted shut". They tried to open the doors, but couldn't, so they pulled a side window out of the track to reach inside. They also said the bottom had fallen out of the glove box, and the contents were on the floor. I'm starting to think the plastic cover ripped because the water got high enough that the bubble of air pulled up on the bag, and tore it. All guesses and assumptions of course.
Here are pictures of the Tulsa Buried Car Belvedere. It Looks pretty well rusted out, as you can plainly see:

Looks like they did a poor job of protecting the car .What a mess and I'm not even a Mopar man. Glad I decided not to make the trip.

Who says????? **) **)
OK to be truthful.....that beer wasn't drinkable in 57 this is an improvement
Yeah, storage don't do it. Drive 'em!
"Looks like they did a poor job of protecting the car .What a mess and I'm not even a Mopar man. Glad I decided not to make the trip"
Actually considering the time frame, I think they did a pretty good job. Remember, that was 1957. The year Sputnik went up, we had no space program, let alone the technology that we have today. We didn't even have plastic bags at the grocery stores then, and no computers to analyze anything unless you were part of the DOD. They probably used the best methods and materials they had available at that time. Probably lucky they didn't rely on cardboard and freezer wrap.
Man, I was 11 years old in 57. Some interest in girls, very little in cars, mostly in shooting pool at the firehouse. I couldn't wrap a present, let alone think of wrapping a car to last another 50 years.
Just think of how well you'd be preserved 50 years in a underground vault. Pretty musty I'd guess.
Bob
