What I don't understand about all of these shows is why are they ALWAYS drilling holes in fresh paint. I thought that was what the initial build was for to get everything set-up so you wouldn't have to drill into fresh paint. I know that’s what I did on my 32 and that method worked great. But what do I know.
And that's the bad part, now the uninformed are being presented with material that portrays Hot Rodders as a bunch of over bearing, egotistical idiots who don't know a thing about scheduling and reasonable deadlines or generally how to run a business. I mean come on, has anyone here ever hired 5 apprentices at the same time, the majority of which are not qualified to even set foot in the shop, and have them work on a mega buck project???? Hopefully the general public sees these shows for the crap they are, and don't consider them representative of Hot Rodding or Hot Rod Shops!!!!!Quote:

Another question, why do all these shows have deadlines that force them to rush building the cars??? Every car or bike has to be done like RIGHT NOW, or the world is coming to an end. If I were spending 6 figures or more, I would want them to take their time and not rush things.
I couldn't contain myself............sent an online comment card to TLC and told them the premise and choice of most of the Apprentices was lame. Knowing the way TV guys think, they will probably see that as a positive. "Hey, people are talking about our new show !!!" :confused:

The money that Pete gets for this show is probably a LOT more than he will get building hot rods.

I forgot about it too, but it seems that I didn't really miss much. Did catch an episode of Shark that I hadn't seen before, so I guess my evening turned out better than some others. :D Up until I had to take out the trash.:eek: :CRY:
it is interesting, there are now shows on tv that weren't previously considered worthless to networks, but they run the gamut from real informative to advertising and soap opera style. for instance
Hunting shows, almost all the ones I see are more advertisement than hunting, when they are hunting they are fenced hunts or in areas of the country where they have raised feed special to bring the deer in, they are almost tame, and you can see the highway in the background.
Tattoo shows- Miami Ink and Inked (maybe off air now). Miami is good, has some drama but has a lot of tattoo work as well. inked was just a soap opera, which was disappointing as some of the artists were really good and rather than showing the big pieces they worked on and their skill they focused on the idiot shop helpers and register girls
on the car/bike stuff. I like American Chopper, i like the interaction between the family, to me it is better than any sitcom. I have learned a few things watching it I think, and I like seeing some of the work. Do I think they are great fabricators like Jesse James? No. Do I like the designs Paulie comes up with? Mostly no. oh, and Mike is my favorite character (maybe cause he reminds me of me).
I have also learned a bit watching the show about boyd, but I don't watch it anymore, he treats his employees like crap and is an asshole in general.
I watch Foose, he rocks. What is this Chop, Cut, Rebuild show? I also have Muscle Car set to record and watch it on my DVR. Have any of you seen that? I think it is the best show out there, it just shows car stuff, no pranks on people, no time wasted with unveils. and it shows A LOT of things. body work, engine, frame, you name it.

Chop, Cut, Rebuild spends too much time with people talking into the camera. Oh, make that READING into the camers. The work they show on the program is very good, though.
I like Musclecar on Spike these days. Lou is a pretty decent fabricator - although his speech pattern is a bit annoying.

Aint that the truth. It's ALMOSt funny except.....
The end result can be a heck of a time waster for people who are actually in the buisness. A couple of examples (the names are changed to protect the stupid). :LOL:
The kid who comes in and applies for a mechanic's job......mind you not an apprentice, or mechanics helper, but a full pay mechanic's job. His qualifications? Maybe a couple of brake jobs and and tune ups......and watching TNN every weekend for the last couple of years. The kids a walking encylopedia of miss information.... but he wastes an hour of the bosses and shop foremans time (plus HIS current bosses time putting in a good word for him) let alone his time in the process trying to expain that he meets the requirments for the job.
Then there's the guy who want's a specific modification or parts....again based on the hype that he's seen on the latest and greatest "car" show. Then you start explaining the technicalities of why this is a bad idea and he gets that glazed over deer in the headlight look. Unfortunatly he's already made the request in writting thru HIS boss to your boss and it of course now needs to be responded to in writting. Of course the end result is no change to the equiptment but 5-6 hours of wasted time in not changing anything.
Unfortunatly these shows are not produced for the real car people who get their hands dirty. Lets face it unless you're into this hobby building a car is boring (in most cases just ask your spouse or girl friend). It's funny the wannabes think shows are the're the greatest thing since sliced bread and the people with real experience just laugh at them.
IT'S ALL ABOUT MONEEEEE FELLAS,SO LET'S TRASH THE SHOW AND GET BACK TO THE GOOD LIFE OF BUILDING RODS.MOST WOULD JUMP AT THE OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE THE BIG BUCKS AND BE ON TV AND BECOME A CELEBRITY. WHEN THE BIG PRODUCERS OF THESE REALITY SHOWS SEE AN OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE BIG BUCKS ,BEING REAL IS NOT PART OF IT. IT JUST BECOMES A WAY OF MAKING MONEEEEE. OTHERS WOULD CALL IT A SELL OUT OUT OF THE ROD BUILDING WORLD. MONEY DOES STRANGE THINGS TO PEOPLE. MY TWO CENTS WORTH.

personally i thought the show was weak , but im chocking it up to getting to know the charecters......maybe thats the case . im gonna watch the next one to determin if im gonna cash in my build time for my car ...or watch tv for an hour and watch nails break and a hollywood argument ... funny how that one girl said i wont use a grinder ......ahhh ok i guess you will do what to shape metal????? oh she said she will watch jimmy do it for her or bother the other guy working on the car .....im glad she is out of the picture there was too much time wasted on her stupid finger nail delema...
You guys would complain if you were hung with a new rope. At least the show is about something we're all interested in. You could be watching reruns of The Jeffersons or Pimp my Ride!
Yeah, but if someone doesn't complain, or vote with their feet, the Hollywood types will just keep dumping out the crap. The concept that a bad motorsports show is better than no motorsports show just doesn't work for me.
Garbage is garbage no matter what kind of fragrance you pour on it. It's no different than "The Wild One" with Marlon Brando from '54. An excellent movie for it's time except that it stereo typed Harley riders for decades and Jimmy Shine sure as h*** isn't Marlon Brando. :rolleyes:
