I found a 402 BB with a TH400 from a 1971 pick up with low miles . It was on the Craigs list for $1200 But the guy came down to $1000 . I was thinking of buying it but I passed on it . It's gone now
i am going to be needing a big block for my upcoming project thats still about 2-4 months away from being started but hey who says ya cant start early, i want a 427 but whos got that kinda $$$ yes its ture im gonna build a big block CAN YA BELIVE IT!? somebody call ripleys
I built some 396/402 BB Chevy street engines . The last one went into a 1967 Camaro SS . The car was a stock 396 car . And the guy wanted the engine to look stock . I used the stock manifolds but did a little pocket porting and install a larger camshaft . That car real ran strong . If it was mine I would install a high rise with a 750 Holley and a set of headers . I did install a 2400 hole shot converter . And the last thing would be a 373 gear the car had a 331 posi rear .
I have not built the 396/402 engines for a about a year now.Quote:

i just sold 2 1973 454`s with turbo 400 trans for 1500 bucks .. one in a truck that the buyer drove away in .. i could`nt find a body to build anything out of .. 69 chevelle or 70 camaro .. i already wish i had them back .. now i want a hotrod ...
The last 402 bare block which was my core with splayed caps and ARP bolts went out the door for $965.
This included hot tank, mag.,bore and hone with a BHJ plate, line bore, line hone, with cam bearings, galley plugs, freeze plugs and painted.
The 1971 402 that came out of the pick up truck . Is It the same block like the cars used ? Are the 427/454 HD truck engines the only tall block BB Chevy engines ? A guy had a 1974 Suburban with a 454 . It was the tall block . He said I could have it . I know that they can be built up . But the intake and push rods and what other parts are not the same ?
396/402 blocks are all the same cars and light truck they did make a short deck and tall deck 10.200 /9.800 427 they made only a short deck 454 9.800 deck blocks
The tall deck blocks are the 366,427 blocks.Quote:

I don't know of any tall deck 454 blocks.
Yes,the intake,push rods are longer.
The block it's self is .400 taller or 10.20 tall vs. the 396,402,427,454 or 9.80 tall.
I have built a bunch of the "poor mans" stroker big block Chevy with the tall deck block.
A sonic test is needed.
Bore 4.350 X stroke 4.500.
These make a 535.

I got one of their 500hp 454's. 60 over with Merlin oval port heads. Balanced and blue printed. 5 years ago, it was around $4K. Now I noticed it was $5600.
gm did on the last mark 4 they made 427 tall decks were cut out on the bottom of the block like a 454 for more room and this block with a 4.500 crank and h beam rods need very little work for the crank to swing
Were the 427 Truck engines 4 bolt main blocks ? And can you buy a good high rise intake if you were to build on ? And is the Distributor the same as the lower BB Chevys ? Like to know Thank's
I see it comes with re-con. rods and a re-con crank.Quote:
