[QUOTE=pat mccarthy]" i have floaters nothing you can do for them"
Well, actually, Pat and Hoss, there IS something that can be done for "floaters" if you want to go through with it.
I had some torn retina problems a few years back which were spot-welded with a laser which took care of them, but before they were fixed some blood got into the Vitreous (that's the liquid stuff inside the eyeball). As a result I was seeing a big blurry spot that moved around and a few "UFO's" and a tadpole looking critter that ran around in one eye, and an upside down horse shoe looking thing in the other one. I don't remember ever not having some minor floaters but they weren't particularly bothersome.
Well, mine got so bad I damn near flunked my last drivers license eye test, so I decided it was time to squawk about it.
There is a surgery called a "Vitrectomy" to solve the problem. (Not "vasectomy" ..... that's something else entirely.)
What they do is enter the eyeball and pump out all the aforementioned "vitreous", and with it all the UFO's, tadpoles and other stuff, then replace it with another fluid (SAE 30 weight?).
Are you still interested? It's a scary prospect. I'll admit that it took me a while to get sufficiently psyched up to do it, but, Hoss, let me tell you. I had the first eye done last September and the other one last November, and now every time I go outside on a clear day I'm astounded all over again about how great my vision is. Absolutely clear. NOTHING else to be seen, and I love recommending the procedure to my geezer friends.
Fortunately my insurance covered the lion's share of the expense, which was probably heck of a lot. I have Medicare plus an additional policy.
I may be able to help you if you have questions....... and you're bound to have some ...... so shoot me a PM if you like.
Oh, and I agree with Brian. Aveeno products are great. I use the lotion.
Good luck!
Jim

well .. i asked those questions about a year and a half ago and finally now have perhaps found the answer to # 3 , ( i`m still living with # 1 & 2 ) .. about a year ago one of my docs did some blood work and found i had a low white blood count yet at the time i was in pretty good condition so i brushed it off and did`nt see him any more .. recently i developed a few infections ( unirary and fungal ) ..took medicines for both with no success .. then remembered the low white blood count find and looked it up and found my current ailments # 1 & 2 on the symptems list as well as terminal anemia ( weakness ) and arm and joint pain .. mild fever ( which may explain why i wear a coat if it`s colder than 80 degrees ... i will be seeing my doc soon and hope my blood can be restored .. incedently i did have an overactive thyroid 30 years ago and had to have a couple radiation treatments and then take medicine for about a year to fix quess what ... a low white blood count .. got to get me fixed up so i can fix up some old cars ..iv`e used up all my sick days at work .. can i call in dead ?

I am an old codger and I do suffer from dry sky in the winter time. I tried everything that people had recommended and finally ran into an old lady in Wallyworld that told me about their generic brand Equate called "Advanced Recovery skin care lotion". When the dry skin starts showing up I just put that lotion on my legs and ankles (my worst areas) after showering and it works great. It is not real greasy and after you use it several times you don't have to use it as often..

For dry winter skin, get some "Aveno" soap--it is a soap made of oatmeal, and is very effective as a moisturizing soap. If your water comes from a well, have its hardness checked---you may benefit from installing a water softner system. For dry eyes, go to the drug store and ask for a product called "Artificial Tears"----as far as food based "picker uppers". one of the best working (albeit foulest tasting) supplements available is Geritol. Have your thyroid level checked at the doctors (a simple blood test) Many, many, boomers suffer from thyroid deficiency, and although it has no BIG physical indicators, chronic tiredness and a diminished sex drive are two of the more obvious symptoms of an underactive thyroid gland.Old guy hot rodder

the dry skin does seem to manifest itself soon after a shower so some kind of oil based cleansor does make good sense .. i use the eye drops already .. my eyes feel almost like they are constantly dilated .. very bothersome .. iv`e had graves disease ( hyper thyroid ) so i`m very aware of what that little thing in the throat can do .. perhaps a visit to the DR , is in order ,, geritol gives me a big red rash in the area of my kidney,, centrom A to Z makes me more red faced than i am already ..my heart rate - blood pressures and sugar levels are all perfect .. i dont know about my red or white blood cell count .. that may be an indicator .. just a few years ago i was running 5 miles almost daily then an injury set me back .. iv`e been trying for 6 months now and cant even run around my home .. severe muscle burn sets in immediatelyiv`e used up all my sick days at work .. can i call in dead ?
