well i scaled the alum head big block and scaled the all alum donovan so them weigths are very close have the notes at the shop but i am thinking it is about right. at the time i did the donovan i did get the weigth on the sbc from hot rod mag and knew i had 632 cid and the same weigth as a alum head sbc :DQuote:

Sure hope the numbers are right, now I just have to make room to get the engine back a couple inches....
well they are very close like said was done with a digital scale
Some progress, thanks to a little help from my friends!!!! I got the rest of the junk out from under the hood, wow, was there a bunch of extra weight in there that will no longer be required!!!!
Also decided to switch the car over to rack and pinion, that stock steering box and arms weighs a ton! So, with the coilovers and rack and pinion going on the front, net savings in weight will be about 35 pounds!!!! Also moving the battery to the trunk, no weight savings but it is necessary weight that will now be in the right rear of the car where it can actually do some good.
Did a little more sheetmetal work on the front, too. All things considered, this is really getting to be a fun project!!!! Might have to raise the price when I'm ready to sell it, should be a fun car when it's finished!
Well, got a bit of tinkering done and a few more small pieces built. I'm concentrating on Tom's Coupe, but I can't stay on my feet real long anymore so when I got to sit down I sit on my roll around and cut out pieces of sheet metal.
So far, about $3,000.00 in the car and it will take another $1,500.00 or so to finish putting the new suspension, steering, and brakes on the car.... Any takers on the sale yet? Might even consider a partial trade.....as long as the trade-in is a Ford or a MoPar!!!!
Dave, I took alook at the pics you posted. Maro will be a niceride for the right person. The 49 Merc you did looks great. Would love to see more photos of that as well. Steve.:D
I do have some more Merc pics in my gallery, Steve. We put together one or two of them every summer.... Rumored that one of them may be a moly tube chassis car this year..... Customer wants to do a bit of nostalgia racing....Quote:

Not much done on the 'maro. Been spending most of my time on the coupe trying to get it done for Tom.
Did do a bit more with the shape on the front end opening. Think it's going to be fun listening to others not into Hot Rods trying to figure out for sure what it is!!!!! Think I've finally got the front shape where I want it....
And you say I should not port my heads ?
Never said you shouldn't port your heads, just have no idea what that might have to do with the fact that I don't like plastic bumpers!!!!!!!
Not my fault!!! If the manufacturer's didn't make plastic bumper covers I wouldn't be forced to do things like this!!!!!!!

Changing is a good thing! ;) ....I've see sometimes not though!
Pat
Wow, that's even more "unique" then what I do!!!!!
sure wish somebody would buy that old 'maro from me..... I'm almost starting to like it!!!!-------(scary thought!!!!)
Nope, not even close to converted, just enjoying the build I guess.... Only reason it's here now since Jackie decided she didn't want it is that it's sale should help with the purchase of some very fine parts for the Ranchero!!! Heck, if I do good selling it, might build another one!!!!
I hurried once, didn't like it... Car looked like poo-poo. I've got two speeds, if you don't like this one, you certaily won't like my other one!!!!!!!!  :LOL:Quote:

The rear suspension, as planned, will be a triangulated 4 bar with coilover and chrome moly control arms with polyurethene bushed stainless stee rod ends on a narrowed 9". I've started to build a fixture base on the stock front lower control arms and will be fabbing up some new ones using chrome moly tube. The spindles and brakes will be the stock '82 'maro pieces with a coilover assembly added to the strut and proper reinforcement on the towers....
With the sheet metal work completed and the body in primer I'll have approximately $3500.00 in the body work and modifications and it will take just a shade under $1500.00 to get all the front and rear suspension back under the car....
So, the car will be a roller with the body in primer and ready for paint for about $5,000.00. I will probably put it up for sale at that amount, and give the option to the new owner to either take it home as is, or he could pick the body color and engine/transmission combination for the car and pay to have it finished....
It's actually becoming a fun project and I'm enjoying the build. It's fun for a change to do the things I want to do and not have to build everything the way the customer wants his car done.... But on the other hand, working on someone else's car is better for me, cuz I can use their money instead of my own!!!!!!! Maybe if I could ever convince myself to NOT have 3 of my own projects going on at the same time I might actually have enough extra cash around to actually finish one of my own!!!!!!!!

Someone will buy the car either way you decide to sell it, it may take a little time but there is a buyer for just about thing on four wheels.
I bought a 50 Ford custom someone else’s project that didn’t want to finish it, it’s now been ten years and it still looks the same other then the fender skirts. I’m in the same boat with too many projects. I did a restoration on a 79 Vette I stretched it out for four years. I bought a 68 Camaro convertible and told my self it would not be like the Vette. I was correct on that it has been 18 years and all I did was pull the front end off, I have original GM fenders, quarters, door skins, grill, wheel moldings, plus odds and ends. I have started a 67 Nova repairing the floors that the guy I bought it from put patch panels over rust then tied it down with rosin then put new carpet over that. Way too many things going on that I can’t focus on just one. Behind my garage it looks like rest in peace 39 Chevy 1 ½ ton farm truck. 40 Chevy coupe, 41 Chevy coupe, 39 Ford coupe, 51 Plymouth, 54 Chevy, 55 Chevy, sometimes I forget how many projects I have. Most likely none will get finished before I'm finished on this planet.
This should really help the procrastinators get going.
Richard
not much done on the 'maro, been busy on Tom's coupe. I did get the air intake for the radiator resized to accomodate a 19" X 31" aluminum radiator. Should have plenty of air flow and radiator capacity to cool whatever engine should end up in the car....
Sorry for the funky color on the pic, had one of the halogen lights on and they make for lousy pictures!!!!!
Took the day off from Tom's coupe and spent a couple hours starting to fab up some pieces for the ram air induction. Got to looking at pics on the 'net of same vintage 'maro's and dang near every one of them run a cowl induction hood so naturally I couldn't build one of them for my car!!!!!!!   No pics to put up right now but I will put together a few pics when I get the whole thing put together. The inlets will be in the flat area just inside of the headlights....
Thinking maybe I'll build a grille with some stainless tube, or maybe just a mesh grille "flotaing" in the opening..... Got to do some more pingin' and dingin' on the front sheet metal and shoot a coat of primer on the front end so I can get a better look at it.....
Sure wish somebody would buy the dang thing, I'm almost starting to like it!!!!!
:D Dave I decided to take the day off completely. My wife, and the dog and I went on a 2 hour walk, enjoyed the outdoors, etc. Now I'm sippin my second beer, got a turkey breast in the smoker, and chattin with the fellas on the CHR site. Not a bad day. Did some gardening too! All my seed starts hit the raised beds this afternoon. Still can't get my pepper seeds to germinate. I think I'll rig up a green house cold frame. I'm determined to get a pepper crop this year!
Spent the day messing with the 'maro a bit and playing with the dog..... Heck, even slaves get a water break!!!!!!!!
Well, most of the "go fast" Camaro's the same style as mine all seem to run a cowl induction hood......So of course I thought I should do something different and decided on an outside air intake system. Just getting started on some of the pieces for the front of the car. Once I have an engine mocked up in the car I'm going to try to fab up a free flowing air cleaner housing to seal out the underhood air. Outside air is much cooler then underhood air, should give a bit more power. Something different, anyway. Here's some pics of my start on the pieces.
nice intakes dave!:3dSMILE:
Thanks. I'll have 3" tubes going to the air cleaner.... Should be enough air???????
How much CFM does a 3" tube flow, anyway?????
PS--excuse the fugly welds, being half blind and trying to weld is tough!!!!!!!!
Hey Dave you could have saved yourself alot of time by just using an old SPAM can:whacked:  :whacked: **)
Yup, maybe a little small but they probably would of worked fine...... Just would of had to find someone to eat the Spam so I could have the cans!!!!!!!
Ya mean you don't like SPAM? We used to have it at home at least once a week and to tell the truth I got a little sick of it. Hormel Foods is the company that makes it here in Austin MN. We even call of town "SPAM Town USA.
I worked for them forty years in their In-Plant print shop and then they sold it to another printer here in town, so I lost my job. Wasn't too happy about it but they did give me a VERY nice chunk of cash for leaving.:D
Haven't had any for years.... When I was going to Air Force Tech School I was usually broke.....Spam was the usual meal...guess I just got tired of it....

Nope, he went to school here.... Sure was a nasty wreck, surprised more weren't killed actually..... Big uproar about the driver of the car, for some reason he didn't have a valid license, don't know why.... Too bad he died, but it sure could have been a lot worse.
Hey Dave
any updates? How's the project coming? Steve.:)
Nothing at all.... Too busy on other projects.... Maybe a couple more weeks and I can at least find time to look at it again!!!!!!
I have ordered more goodies for it and have another order ready to place tonight so when I do have time the new goodies will be there waiting!!!!
I hear yah. I'll be painting and sanding most of the summer. Hope to have the cash for the engine by fall. Then I'll be moving foward!:3dSMILE:
Ok, the 'maro is officially for sale. As is, all done, or anywhere in-between. It's gonna be a skinny block chebbie, 4 wheel disc brakes, 4 corner coilovers, 9" with a triangulated 4 bar, 6 point roll bar, trick dash, 2 seat interior, lots of body mods, and anything else a new owner would want.....
PS, no dumb offers please, this car is and will continure to be the best parts and a ton of labor.......
