Went in the house after a campfire one night and got greeted by this gross sucker. I realize there are bigger spiders in other parts of the country but this ranks right up there in my Its gotta die category. It got a good shot of Raid before this picture so it was more like dead spider walking at this point. Attachment 33287

Last year I was working in the garage, my oldest was hanging out with me when she starts hyperventilating because she see's a spider. I go over and see this big-a-- wolf spider cruising by, I give it an upclose look at the sole of my Wolverine boot, not real hard cause I dont want to do a major clean up. When I pulled my foot back there was a wave of about a million (give or take) baby spiders running all over, needless to say I became LORD OF THE DANCE right now. This was the first time I ever saw momma spider playing taxi, and hopefully the last.

I don't mind spiders at all. Matter of fact, when I see one outside with a web, I'll swat down flying critters and throw them into the web to feed him/her. Back in NC, I had a lovely Garden spider fattened up to larger than that dude in the photo. I look at it this way, the spiders won't mess with you if you don't mess with them, but they sure will eat the critters that WILL mess with you (bugs flying in your face). If you want to remove a spider from the house, take a paper or plastic cup and place it upside down over the spider. Slide a piece of paper between the floor/wall/whatever and the rim of the cup. Now, you have him captured and can walk him outside and give him a toss into the grass.
Now, snakes are another subject. Cannot tolerate ANY kind of snake.
here we have garden, wolf, black widow and recluse. we also have found in the past month 2 copperheads, a black racer, a garter, and a green garden snakes. When my hubby sees one of the snakes he goes to the opposite direction. I pick them up and move them to a different location near the woods to keep them away from my kids and dogs. The only problems I have with animals are the 2 legged kind. Never know what they are going to do.:D
I have had those, they can run really fast. 3 nights in a row, same time, same place, one runs across the carpet. I do not care for them either but I do enjoy the garden spiders, especially when I can watch them capture and bind up a grasshopper.
anything that eats grasshoppers is my friend. every time i come across one it wants to jump and hit me in my face.
We have a little beach get-away down in Baja. Lots of Black Widows. Problem with them is they like to hide in dark places, like under the toilet seat!!! Well, I guess that's a good place to catch flies, but.... look out! Went down one December and found a Rattlesnake in the house, hibernating. Got in under the door because I had not installed the threshold yet. I tried to scoop it out with the shovel, but it had other ideas. So I ended up chopping its head off with the flat edge, and even then the mouth was still clamping down trying to bite me. I put the body in the Fridge overnight and skinned it the next morning. While I was getting the skin off, the carcass was writhing around and wrapped around my arm! Very weird. After I got the skin and rattles off, I took it down to the beach for the birds to eat. The headless naked carcass then coiled up and the neck stump stood up in a strike position! Those birds would not go near it for at least an hour until the found out it was harmless. Someone told me that by putting it in the cold Fridge, I slowed down the metabolism. But still, what do you have to do to kill one of those things!!

Spiders don't bother me and rats don't bother me, but snakes? Well, they just scare the very .... ah, .... stuffing out of me.
And I'm not real fond of scorpions, either.
My son (who only rarely shows signs of being intelligent) was building a retaining wall at his house when he found a fine, fat, black widow spider. He captured her and put her in a big pickle jar in his garage, and fed her whatever bugs he could find just to watch the battle. Big cockroaches, big beetles, and even scorpions. The black widow killed (and ate) them all.
Then one day he found an egg-sack in there. Then a few days later another one. And then they hatched out and there were literally THOUSANDS of baby black widows in the jar.
At that point his wife declared that the game was over and gave him an unladylike ultimatum (like "GIT RID OF THOSE #%"@<&:-# THINGS NOW!). He asked her how he was going to do that.
She made him take the microwave out in the driveway and nuke the whole jar full of his little pets. She's a mean woman.
Okay. That's the end of today's biology lesson.

I've had my share of "involvments" with both of them types of critters, including the "millions of babies" thing; swatted one down that was webbed up across a walkway, and it sort of "exploded", and I had 'em all over me. :eek: :eek: :eek: :LOL:
if it walks ,crawls ,slithers or flys i have it here on the farm. we just have an understanding.as long as they dont bother me they live. ;) now i will bust a coyote any chance i get . they eat investments. :mad:
That is a wolf spider. They can give a pretty good bite but thats all. There one of the fastest spiders around.
Spiders facinate me, but I am cautious of them. As a kid I watched a spider,( don't know what kind) fight a red wasp. The wasp kept trying to sting him, but the spider finally won, he was only half the wasps size.
Any critters I find in the house usually end up meeting Jesus, especially black widows and brown recluses.
As far as snakes, if it's poisonous it dies, if it's not I usually let it live for pest control. Have a big rat snake that's lived in the barn for years.

I am different than most of you, I kill any spider I see but snakes don't bother me a bit.
I had to laugh at my mom when she saw the spider, she backed away and was real carfull not to get close, and I said to her " I don't remember you being scared of spiders when I was a kid". All she said was " I didn't want you to think that I was a chicken".:LOL:
I hate spiders also . Remember in Texas back years ago they told us of all the ones that can hurt you . That was enough to open my eye since the little house spiders was the most I knew of . Well now a couple cans of the good raid sprayed every month or so keeps the garage clean of pests i don't want running over me while i am working on car .
Those wolf spiders are fast and can get a to be the size of a half dollar .
Guess I never let them 'get under my skin'. LOL's. The only ones I dislike are the brown recluse and black widow. They can reek havoc on your bod. I leave the rest to do thier job....cut down on the insect population. Could you imagine a world without them? Who loves flies? I detest those nasty buggers!
I noticed over the last few days that the tarantulas must be migrating....theyre all over crossing the highway close to home. Now....those things are fun to tease the family with. Just pick them up, walk in the house, and turn on the dB meter. 'Pegged'. LOL's. I swear my 16 year old son is worse than anyone. :LOL: :LOL: :LOL:

Yuck! I used to work in an emergency room and saw a woman come in for a spider bite...to her nose! The family had the carcass of the bug and when it was identified, she was admitted. The lady lost a good part of her nose as the poison killed the skin so she had plastic surgery performed to rebuild it. Not sure what she was doing with a spider on her nose though. No more spider pictures please, you guys are freaking me out man!!!

hey joe. just read a story on the bbc last week about those. one got in the guys duffle bag and when he got home it came out. bit his family dog and killed it. now they are checking all the duffle bags that come into the country from the wars before they can take them home.
Yeah thanks guys. I was laying on the floor near my merc in the garage yesterday...after reading all of this buggy business. A spider went scampering by me and I yelled like a school girl. My THREE year old boy gave it a side kick out of the garage and couldn't wait to tell mom when she got home. Now my kid will always look upon me as a whimp and my wife, well, she always has to kill the spiders in the house anyway so no harm there. Thanks a lot guys!
I think they made the movie Arachnophobia just to freak the jegeebuz out of me. No eight legged crawly things for me please.
I hate spiders. This is a camel spider found in Iraq, that place is just wrong in too many ways.
In southeast Texas where I was raised we had wood (banana) spiders.

They build large webs across trails in the woods and if you are not paying attention you would get a face full of web and spider. These suckers about the size if a coffee cup in diameter. :eek:
And I hated the bastards but my old man taught us to respect the creatures because they ate their weight in something even worse – mosquitoes!

if anybody gets a tarantula in their house ill glady take em :D i even pay shipping:D haha alot of people are scared of getting bitten in reality its no worse then a bee sting if its from a tarantula.

not to humans. like i said it slike a bee sting, if your allergic to bees dont handle a tarantula. of course i know a few people who ahve been handing them for well over 10 years and have never been bitten its mostly common sense you know. when they start rearing up and getting antsy leave em be. there are a few like, the usambar-baboon, king baboon goliath bird eater and cobalt blue that you just dont touch or try to handle they are far to agessive to try that unless you brave and or an expert. not posionus they are jsut very agressive. i have a rosehair she is pretty much harmless to me.

In the late '70's when I lived in NC I pulled up next to a guy who had a mint set of Dodge Lancer hubcaps on his daily driver. After some negotiations I ended up buying them from him. When I got my new find home I started to polish them and was on the second one before I looked at the backside. There was a spider sitting there, all comfy in a nest he had built inside the spinner part. Then I noticed the hourglass on his back and realized it was a Black Widow! :eek:
Needless to say, those hubcaps smelled like Raid for quite some time. :D
