in North Carolina, any vehicle over 35 years old does not have to undergo a safety inspection (or an emissions inspection) ........... this state would also probably be a rat rod haven :rolleyes: :rolleyes:
PA can be a hotrodders worse nightmare if you let them. All vehicles except Antiques (25 + years old, factory original or close) require annual inspections. Emissions not required for cars older than 1978 or titled as Classic, Streetrod, or Collector. If you buy one with a good PA Title inspection is required before titling and tags. If you buy out of state with a good title inspections are also required, once for the titling and again for the tags.
If you build, plan on keeping all receipts, photos of all changes and modificatons including the build itself, completing a 21 page questionaire and submitting all with your application to the DMV. Before titling you will need to have the vehicle inspected at an inspection station certified for reconstructed vehicles (not your run of the mill inspection station). Once you past that inspection you can apply for a title and then you need another inspection before you can tag the vehicle for highway use. There are some inspectors that only do a cursory inspection, but anyone afraid of losing their license and their income will do a tight check.
I assume one day they will begin titling fresh built cars as the year of build not the year that they resemble. Sure it's about safety, but it's also about money and keeping the Feds happy when it comes to emissions and safety rules.
Regardless of your state's requirements, or lack there of, why would anyone want to put their life or the lives of others at risk by driving an unsafe car? :confused: Maybe in addtion to vehicle inspections, states should also do mental evaluations on the owners/drivers.:eek: :LOL: :LOL:

Oh ya, Indiana has a no inspection law also, only a seat belt, bumper height, noise, all working lights and signals. They are pretty cool about what you drive as long as you are driving in a safe manor. Other then that my stuff usually has roll bars and 5 points all around. When I lived in Texas 15 years ago they were pretty strict, I would bet in states that still have them they are still pretty strict.
