Some of us are old enough to remember Bird Engineering. They advertised in hot rod magazines in the 50's and 60's with a T bucket kit you could buy on credit from them. I think it was something like $ 695. and came with everything but the engine and transmission. Wonder how many of them got financed and sold?
They also sold go karts for like $ 199 ready to go.

Sears;
Just started thier Layaway program back up after all these years.
I remember when we kids and my brothers and me got to go down
and put a really nice gocart on layaway. That was the last one we
bought, after that we started building them. We ended up putting a
Yamaha 125 engine on that with a two speed trany.
Went better then 100mph. and right after that my mom sold it.
Guess she thought 100mph. was to fast for our 7year old brother.
I guess this was when she figured out that she in for it with us boys.
I guess we are all lucky non of us got killed.
Good times, good memories. Kurt

I do not shop much at summit, over some past bad experiences. But every year or 2 I give them another shot and they usually mess something up. After you mentioned the layaway thing I remembered someone saying they had a 0% interest card. I checked and they do, up to a year to pay it off. I might be trying them again.

And yes all the stores here, walmart, k mart, sears, all have layaway for xmas items only though.
Live everyday like it were your last, someday it will be.

I'm not crazy about Summit's "handling charge", I think it is something like 10%.

Im not pro-Jeg's for me I can drive to one of three stores with in 10min no shipping no waiting. Not suggesting any one thinks I amif I cant pay cash for it right then I dont need it that bad. any body ever order A Muskingum master engine rebuild kit from the JCpenny catolog,I did for to of my 73 vega cam back wagons, think it was $100.00ea can't rememberif you could put that stuff on layaway or not.Yes they where worth rebuilding both had the steel sleeve cylinder blocks

Itolduso, i remember Bird Engineering too :back b-4 I could drive mid 1960's. Did they have a mini bike too?
Ref Summit Racing, I live close so I pick stuff up so no handling charge. they do have credit card plans no interest right on cover page of site. They have a points plan that add up quick when building a project. Just by shopping at Summit, I have accumulated one $20 off any $100 purchase and two $15.00 speed points plan."Chance favors the prepared mind"
Car Cruisin spectator remark about my suede paint :
"That will look nice when it is painted"
(it is painted).
Sorry for your loss of friend Mike McGee, Shine. Great trans men are few and far between, it seems. Sadly, Mike Frade was only 66 and had been talking about retirement for ten years that I know...
