I tried a couple like McAfee that you pay for yearly and had problems,I switched to AVG freeware 4 years ago and I won't change ever again, it's been flawless even when I had my old Windows 98they also offer an upgraded version for $30 a year if you need it.

Jeff, I had something definitely wrong, and had this pop up during a virus scan, which was being done by my "Norton" protection. The emblem was similar to theirs, and I thought they were recommending it. I was in a "panic mode", and signed up. Now I am not so sure I made a good choice.

I found some complaints on the net, so I haven't downloaded this program, but did use a credit card to pay for it. :-(

AVG is the way to go. I have a graphics shop with 4 computers, MAC and Dell at the shop and three at home. AVG's kept them all clean and my Tech. guy swears by it.

winxdefender is actually a rogue that implants itself through a trojan into your computer. it gives you exaggerated reports of viruses and ask for more money to protect your pc. here is a link to remove it. you need to contact your credit card company to stop payment on this. I use avast free home anti-virus and have never had a problem in 3 years.

I have avg as well and got onto a site that gave me all kinds of warnings that I had encountered a virus and needed to download something to take care of it. I could not get away from the page because every click I made brought back that message. I couldn't even go back to my home page. I ended up turning it off and then back on which allowed me to do my own scan with avg. I did not have a virus and it has been working fine. I used to have Norton and got a virus and our computer guys recommened AVG and we have used them since.

After looking over the emails, and talking to my credit card company, it appears that I may have avoided the transaction by not downloading the program yet. At this time no charges have been made.

My Norton is up for renewal in a couple weeks, so I may switch to AVG. These sound like good recommendations.

Any members out there have a problem with AVG?

First thing you need to do is TURN OFF SYSTEM RESTORE


Start with

to get rid of the current issues you are having

Next get yourself the pay version of AVG:

or

Nortons 360 version 2

http://www.symantec.com/index.jsp


Again before you do anything turn off system restore.

Thanks. I tried it, but no go.

This bug I have redirects my internet traffic. If I try to email friends, or go to chat groups, it works fine, but.....

I have tried to go to about a dozen Norton, Symantec, or other virus prevention addresses, and it tells me the "link is broken". I also occasionally get the cookie "websearch" installed, which my program says "redirects traffic". Sometimes I get through to places that look amatuerish, or sites that have part of the address mispelled????????

I have swept it several times with two different programs, and always find the situation showing up again. The Symantec symbol on my toolbar has a red circle with an X, which means "at risk". I can't seem to get rid of it.

That is why I am switching to the landline for help.....if they ever answer their phones, and I get to talk to a real person.

Spydoctor will get rid of the issue at hand, but again you first need to turn off system restore.

this is the best scanner/remover in the business. I use this sometimes just to double check my avast. it takes a while but it is well worth it. and its free. it checks for all viruses, trojans, worms, and spyware. it will also download all patches needed.
