What was the last year that Chevrolet made the 265 cubic inch V8 engine?
My guess would be in 1957 for cars, not sure about trucks.
1996, it was called the 'Baby LT-1' used in the Caprice.
Mike
I know they made 'em in '57, but I haven't heard about that Caprice engine.
HRP, a little more info,
"Although the LT1 was only around for five years, there were two-bolt and four-bolt blocks, aluminum and cast iron heads, regular and H.O. cams that came with long and short dowels, and three different front covers. There was also the "Baby LT1," the 265 cid version that was the standard engine in the Caprice from 1994-‘96."
"There was only one block used for the 265 cid version of the LT1. It’s a 10168588 casting that had the numbers "4.3" cast on the side, too. It’s real easy to spot if the heads are off because of the small 3.74" bore."
"The LT-1 265 has it’s own unique crank with a 3.00" stroke. That’s the same stroke the original 265 had back in 1955; it’s funny how things go around and come back full circle. It’s a 10168568 casting."
Mike
4.3 is 262.3 cid
Mike only got the answer because of the LT-1 article.....but he did get it right.....1996
This is a good bar bet
How about this...What was the first year Chevy produced a V-8??:(
Pour yourself one!! The 1917 Model D as I recall.
How about another one. Name the inventor of the ball mounted rocker arm and how did it come about?:(
Robot, you're exactly right, I read Doug's page (the same link you posted in my LT-1 thread) yesterday while looking for info on the engine I was thinking about buying :D Sorry to spoil the trivia question, I didn't mean to, probably should have excused myself since I just learned the answer yesterday.......LOL As punishment, I'll go sit in the cold garage and watch a rerun of Everybody Loves Raymond.
Is that also where you got the idea for the question or did you already know?
Mike
