Next day, the 12 of July, it was off to Bangor, Maine thru a sun/rain mix. --To be fair, mostly sun. On arriving in Bangor, we realized that there is no good way to get to Plattsburgh, New York without driving thru a zillion little towns which all have a 30 MPH speed limit. It took a LONG FRIGGIN TIME to travel the 300 miles to Plattsburgh the next day---
On the 14th, we left Plattsburgh, and drove thru to the bridge at Cornwall (which had just been re-opened the previous day) and re entered Canada. There we encountered a baby cop who wasn't going to let us into Canada because my 1931 roadster pickup doesn't have seat belts. I told him to get on the blower and talk to his sargeant, that it didn't need seat belts. He did, and then said "Huh--Well I never heard of that before!!!"--then waved us thru. We highballed it thru to Perth, where I had intended to stay overnight at Dougs house. ---BUT---I'd had enough. I wanted to get home. I dropped Doug off, got his good wife to feed me a coffee and a sandwich, and drove on thru to Barrie. (Exactly 400 miles from Plattsburgh.) In summary---The rpu worked great. The weather sucked!!! The nationals semi-sucked!!! the tour organizer, Frank Colgoni of Canadian Rodder did a very good job of organizing it all, and the people who went on the tour were a great bunch of people. (Especially the bunch from Timmins and Sudbury). Would I do it again?---Not in this life.---Will I ever eat another Teenburger--maybe next year.---Brian
Brian,as I stated earlier I would love to take one of those cruises.I think now I would reconsider.
I guess you should expect the good- the bad -& the ugly when encountering such a trip.
But a trip you shall never forget. Get well.
Wow! Certainly a trip to remember even if not fondly. I wondered how the weather would affect the tour as 'summer' up here has really sucked this year... rain, cold temperatures and more rain. At least the RPU worked well for you.:)
Brian, no one could have told that story better than you! I'm still chuckling over the eating pine trees thing. :LOL: I know after driving only 5 or 6 hours to Daytona I don't want to sit in my T for a while, so I can only imagine how it must have been for you all those days............and with rain to boot.
But at least you have a story to tell for years to come, and you have done something only a very few others have done. :)

Don--I put 3500 miles on the rpu from when I left Barrie untill I returned to Barrie. The seats in my rpu were as comfortable as a Barcalounger when I left. By the time I got home, my poor old arse thought it was setting on a pile of rocks!!!Quote:

Brian - Since we missed each other in Plattsburgh, I guess I'll have to be satisfied with reading the tale of many miles here. I think it sounds like you really did have a good time, even if it rained most of the time. Again, I do apologize for not meeting up with you - but plans here went astray - and of course all my fault:CRY::CRY: I still had a good time here though taking my 6 year old grandson who lives in southern New Jersey to see Monster Jam trucks at a local dirt track(they are loud and their act is violent).
perseverance - Brians ability to slog 3500 miles in the rain, getting wet, a cold and poor goodie bags! Brian great story. You are a true sport to see that one out to the end. Glad you and the truck made it home safe. Meant to ask how the new brakes performed?

this is the "Tour Truck" that went along with us, driven by Moe. It carried all the tools for repairs along the road, and all the "swag" that was given out each morning at our meetings before we hit the road for another days travel.

This pic shows my car, and the car belonging to two really brave kids, a man and wife from Oshawa, who drove the entire trip WITH NO TOP!!! In this picture both cars are huddled under the hotel portico to get out of the rain for the night.
