to each their own....but I dont get the rat rod thing.
I get it I have one, but that one is just scary! Probably not very safe either like those brackets on the front axle and the cam for a drag link. That's gonna break the first pothole. As a matter of fact that whole front suspension is a mess.
The whole Rat Rod thing can be hard for a lot of guys to understand. The Rat Rod crowd will say they want to get away from Cookie Cutter cars and build with what they have. To use a group of electic parts in a amalgamation that is cool and works.
Well, that is cool thing as well as an obtainable goal, and from that "CAN" come some nice and inovative and different cars. As an example witness the Boober Trucks that have sprung from the "RAT" theme. Some of these Booper trucks are very cool and they are in many ways a new Type of Hot Rod not seen before at least not seen in there current form. That is a good thing.
And then there are cars like the one pictured here---well I guess you could call that mess a car, yea on a good day maybe. Nothing cool about throwing together a ton and a half of junk, in the most unsafe and "UN" pratical manner and calling it a Rat Rod. I guess that would be the difference between a Rat and just plan RATTY.
And Florida, you are mistaken about -- No Billiet, this clown even missed on that simple requirement of rat rods--- The air cleaner scoop is in fact Billet Aluminum.

Funny, we all put rat rods down, but 4 of the top 10 threads on this site are "rat" threads. Go figure.:whacked:**)
I don't mind rat rods and in fact like some, but the ones like this one with purely stupid stuff like that cam/drag link are what is going to cause all of us hot rodders problems down the road. A few of these start falling apart on the road and the powers that be will lump us all into one big group of trouble makers. We hot rodders have come too far respect wise to have "cars" like that set us back 50 years. :mad:

I agree completely. If they are unsafe they have no business on the road.
There are "Rat rods" and then there are "Rat Crap."
I wasn't condoning them, just pointing out something I have noticed on the site.:)
Rat Rods are somewhat preplexing. Some of them are well designed and thought out projects. Example these 4. All self proclaimed by there owners as "RATS"
And then there is the other end of the spectrum, which begs to ask just two questions---- WHY??? and --- What could they have been thinking ???
And by the way that slant cab F-100 pick-up is a running driving vehicle.

Like I mentioned, I have nothing against what some call rat rods as long as they are safely built. Not everyone wants a shiny car. I've posted pictures of this rat before, it belongs to a friend. Bill used to drive funny cars and has been a hot rodder for many years, but he absolutely loves this car. It has been driven a zillion miles so far to places like Illinois, Texas, and God knows where else. It looks ratty but has a crate motor and is actually built pretty well. At shows he just sits on his lawn chair and smiles at the reactions of onlookers. :D

Looks like a waste of a good model a body :D Like the traditional style rods and some of the so called rat rods(only well put together) Most them I wouldn't ride in.

I'm with don sooner or later the legislators are going to do what the love to do that's legislate and there going to take a hang em all and hang em high attitude tey all ready have the public brain washed into thinking any car that not electric needs to be done away with. look what they did to the soccer mom's and there suv's......ted

My "Bobber Truck", "Rat Rod". Suspension is made from all new or rebuilt parts. I have built dirt track dirt cars, restored Muscle cars and 35 years of welding experience so I build them with safety in mind. Runs down the highway at 70 with no problem. Absolutely no bump steer, correct Akerman with no scrub. 11" front disk brakes with Corvette dual master cylinder, 10" rear drums.

dmw, This little Bobber truck has been on several web-sites, and the build photos ( I think ) were on the Hamb or maybe the RRR. This is a well thought out and very well built Hot Rod. Doesn't even belong in any conversation with what may be wrong with some rats. And I think that these Bobber style trucks is the something new I spoke about in an earlier post.
Great job "dmw56" now go build another one.

dmw56, I have seen most of your build thread or I guess "Build Thread's" just wasn't sure were. Your is a very cool little truck and I really love the Bobber Truck Theme.
With all of those projects, looks like there will be plenty more build's to look for. I have traveled thru new Mexico many times and there sure isn't any lack of old tin there so you could be busy for a looooong time. Hope so!!
