What to do with 02 impala?

I figured you guys might have "been there done that" and hoped for a little advice. I have a 2002 Impala that has 215,000 miles. The trans just went out and its 2000 dollars to rebuild. Well the car is only worth 2500 if I sold it, It got some bad hail damage about 4 months ago. SO, even if I did fix the trans I would not make much off it. Also If I did fix the trans the motor is on the way out. I am thinking to part it out and my wife says do one of the donation tax right offs. I told her I could make a dune buggy out of it but she did not like that idea,lol. I am thinking just part it out , heck the motor and trans has to be 600 pounds of alum. Thanks

No direct experience, but a coworker had a mini-van that had been through some tranny issues and gave up the ghost in a parking lot - would not move an inch. He did the charitable gift route, they came to the parking lot and all he had to do was meet them with the title. Got a receipt for the "market value" of the van, and they hauled it away. The donation value is tied to the tax bracket, so you might make more by breaking it down and selling pieces parts for scrap, but having it hauled off is easier.
