Would You Go to a Car show In The Rain?

I wanted to go to at least one Car Show this year since so many other things have taken place surgeries, wife working, etc.

Its one thing to be at a show and it start to rain but to get in the car you have worked on preparing for a show and start out in the rain is another story. Went out yesterday to get a new 6-volt battery just to make sure we would get there and back. I changed the oil and filter. I bought a cleaner & dressing for the vinyl top, white wall cleaner, car cleaner & wax.
Lying in bed this morning I could hear that distinct sound of rain, it’s coming down pretty good now with lightning and thunder.
I’m going to have to pass on this one; there may be one more before the end of the year. I know the James Dean show will be in September. We would have to drive there and back the same day because every Motel has been booked way in advance.

We have been caught in the rain quite a few times but that was when we were hundreds of miles into the trip. It has rained on the way home from and even during the show. We were in Louisville Kentucky when the big flood came. One minute is was nice sun was shinning the next the rain came down and flooded the place, cars were under water that was really bad.

So what would you do?

It rains just about every Summer day here in Florida, Richard, so we get wet a lot. You've got a roof, so head out and have some fun. It might clear up.

1/2 the fun is goin and comin back.
My ole line is

Any day in a roadster is a better day than stayin home.
Wet or dry.

I haven't been wet with this car - yet, but expect that little deal will happen sooner rather then later. I had a T-bucket a few years ago and even with the top on it, often got wet as the front tires throw whatever is on the road directly in my face on a turn:whacked: With the top off - I just went fast enough for the rain and road spray to go over the car (until I made a turn).

Now, would I go to a local show in the rain with an open roadster - nah. I can BS with my buddies another time.

The show started at 10;00 a.m. and now at 11:20 it's not raining. I just missed out; I didn’t want to get it dirty since I spent time getting it ready. I have been watching the weather and they were calling for Thunderstorms all day. You cannot trust the forecast now the sun is shining.

I've gone to the Street Rod Nationals and seen T Buckets with people getting wet it would be raining so hard. Some cars without tops passing me in my closed Coupe.

I would go, let her rip. I went to a show here a couple years ago, left my house and it was clear 10 minuets later I looked like a jet boat going down the freeway. I was soaked, but still had fun.

Thanks guys she coming out.

I'm going to get it out of the garage at least I'll spend a little time there even if it's just driving to and from. I have been in a closed coupe where the rain was coming down so hard my pant leg was soaked from water coming through the cowl vent. My leg was blue from the blue jeans.

We get rains here in Florida like I have never seen anywhere else, and I've been caught in them driving one of my roadsters. The last time I drove my 27 about 11 years ago I drove home from Turkey Run in Daytona Beach.......5 hours of rain so bad I couldn't see my Girlfriends car following behind me or the car in front of me. The rain was like bullets, stinging as it hit me in the face.

We stopped and I bought one of those yellow hooded vinyl rain suits.....jacket and pants. I looked like a big yellow banana driving down the road. :p For 5 hours I was feeling water trickling down the neck opening in the jacket and running down my chest. As I got close to home my butt was a little tired so I shifted around in my seat and all that water had accumulated in the back of the vinyl pants..........I was sitting in about 4 inches of water. :LOL: When I got out of the car it was like a flood running out of my pants legs.:eek:

Roadster people are a different breed..........coupe guys would never understand.

Sounds like cheap jeans and a lot of fun.
Drove to louisville 1 year from So-Cal in a roadster.
First 4 - 5 hrs was great, rest of the trip was in the rain, that was great also.
Get 'em out and drive 'em.
Don't do no good sittin in the garage.

Used to go to the "inside shows" as spectators in the rain:D

Seems to be standard roadster weather here in england :(

You guys talked me into to now I'm worn out. I had to clean the white walls can't go out in public with dingy whites. It was a nice drive small show and nice people. I have some picture in no particular order.

In the 80’s Levi had pre washed I’m sure. I worked in jeans and my brand was Levi’s for what I was doing I didn’t need pre washed but that day I wish they had been.

Were you at the Louisville NSRA when the big flood came? We were lucky the front section was filled when we came in so we had park around back. Our car was just high enough to keep the water at the running boards. Cars all around had water inside. People were pushing the cars trying to get them out of water. One minute the sun was shinning the next the floods came.

glad you went .. when the hot rod power tour came threw my home town in 05 it rained every inch of the way .. i drove 80 miles in it .. they came thru again this year and it rained evey inch of the way // power tour brings rain ..

Funny thing it looked like rain when we were on our way to the show but we didn't get a drop. They called for thunderstorms all day today, I'm glad they were wrong.

Maybe they should call it the hot rod power rain tour.

Ken, you gave me the boost I needed, I was in my pajamas eating my bran flakes while it was raining. I stayed on the site then the sun came out; your encouraging words pushed me out the door. My wife didn't want to go she said it was going to rain all day, I said so what. Like a little whipped pup I came in the dinning room in my under wear and socks. I said "you know I don’t asked for much so lets go." How could a woman refuse a crazy man in his under wear asking such a question. To think some people don't believe we have power. I had to hustle to get the white walls clean. It was worth it.

I met some car guys that are into racing and building hot rods right in my area.

PS My wife said I lied I do get everything I want.

I try to avoid going to shows in the rain. I have sat at home weather man talk bout rain and not even a drop:mad: and get mad at myself. I hate to get caught in the rain but it does happen. thank for sharing the pictures.

Yeah I know what your saying. It rained most of the morning, the guys said go, so we did and it didn't rain another drop when they called for thunderstorms all day and into the evening. It was a small show but it was worth going to and the ride was ok.

Your 34 Pickup really looks good. If you have the time you could put some pictures up we all like looking at cars. Mine is not a hot rod but it's the only thing I have now that's running.

Rain doesnt bother me, only downfall is the low turnouts. But, I usually still go. The 68 isn't a polished ride anyway, just knock the dirt off and wipe it down.

How is the 47 Dodge coming? I hope it's not like my 39 Chevy Truck just sitting. I have too many things going on at the same time. Today it was yard work, in the heat that will do you in.

Yeah I can look at cars all day long. My wife said she could use the computer the rest of her life and never catch up to what I do with the computer. At least we don't get viruses from looking at car "porn". I’m going to check out your album.

I just found your pictures, it took a minute to remember how to get there. Now I can check them out along with more time to hog the computer today looking at the other cars.
