and the Doctor said...(this ain't a joke)

On Tuesday I get a call from a buddy telling me there's a wagon at our local bone-yard just like my beater & I thought "Cool, I can get some of those missing pieces & maybe some extra's". So I get down there & see the car & decided yeppers I could use a few parts :cool: . I grabbed a few pieces & knelt down to check the power seat units(mine are dead) and asked my buddy to pull his truck around in front of the car to jump it to check the power seat motors. I go to stand up & my left knee went SNAP-CRACKLE-POP and locked into place :eek: I hobbled around for a bit to try & pop it back into place(yes this has happened before to me) I finally bent over grab behind my knee & moved it around a bit & it went POP-CRACKLE-SNAP :eek: Hurt like holy hell and yessss I did use some colorful language but at least now I could walk a bit better. Needless to say my knee swelled up like the size of a bigg cantaloupe and was squishy, oh joy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

I'm lucky enough to have a great referral lady in my primary care doctors office & w/one phone call she got me into see my knee doctor today rather then next Thursday. They took a bunch of X-rays and the doctor said........
Joe we need to drain that knee now & w/that they gave me some shots & drain off 2 HUGEEEE syringes full :eek::eek: of blood out of my knee. That part didn't bother me at all, matter of fact it made my knee feel a lot better.
The part I didn't like is when the doctor said................
We need to replace both your knees :eek: :whacked: :CRY: you're basically bone to bone on both knees

I told him I wasn't to thrilled to here that & asked to have just the cortisone injections for now(which he was going to do anyway) & that I would have to think about having the knees done anything soon. With everything that has been going on around here & the health Denise is in right now, this old mule doesn't need any more burden to carry.

Joe,mate,this isnt your best year for health,is it??Between you and Denise,I hope things come right for you soon...dont know about knee jobs,but I know they can be painful when they are crook..so I hope you can get them done soon..Sorry,mate,cant do much about the work on large Marge either,,hopefully someone here can help you..Come on guys,,Joe still needs our prayers..

Sorry to hear about the knees. You're in a bit of Catch 22 - don't feel you can take the time to have them done, but can't have them going totally out where you're down either. You & Denise are both in thoughts and prayers.

I don't know a lot about what is going on with Denise outside of you asking for prayers for her a little while ago but I would recommend that you get your knees done so you can take care of Denise. I have not had anyone get both done at the same time, but have heard that it can be done and think I would at least look into it because you don't want to be going through surgery when Denise needs you the most.

Dang Joe, when it rains it pours,huh? I guess I need to start counting my blessings instead of pizzin and moanin' about my back going out the other day.

Sounds like your old knees have just degenerated to the point of no return so a TKR is probably the only solution.

My Wiffy had her right knee done in 2009 and her hip is next on the list.

I sure don't know if getting both done at the same time is prudent but it sure would cut your down time in half, that is if your rehab went as planned.

I've been praying for you both so that will continue along with additional prayers for your situation and recovery.

Geeeze - and I thought my prep for the every 5th year trip to the "rear admiral" today was tough. At least they gave me whoopee drugs and some 'suitable for framing quality' color pictures of my innards

Good luck - and get those knees fixed. Yes it will hurt for a while and marathons are out of your immediate future plans, but someone needs to be available to tend to the DW :LOL:

Thoughts and prayers for you, Joe!

My mom has has both done (years ago) and it made a word of difference. My daughter's father-in-law recently had both done at the same time (he's mid fifties) and was up and about quickly and back to work (tool & die maker) within a month. Say's it was the best thing he's ever done and he feels great!

Technique is better all the time and the truly "space age" materials will give you good knees for the rest of your life.

So get 'er done and we'll all be praying for a quick recovery!

I'll keep all of you all in my prayers. Looking far into the future, everyone I know that has had knee replacement only regrets that they did not do it sooner. Their quality of life went up a lot after the surgery. I know timing is everything, hope you can work it out so everyone's needs (knees?) are met.

My brother in law had both knees replaced this past July...They had him up on his feet and walking in two days, he was home in a week, and just returned back to work at the beginning of this month. Amazing technology they have out these days in regards to knee replacements. If it needs to be done, do it.

Heck Joe,you and Denise will be included in my prayers to our Lord. As you maybe aware I too am waiting for new knees and the surgeon has told me that he recommends one done at a time as that leaves you one "good" leg to stand on to enable one to get the new knee going. The turn around time here in NZ is 6 weeks between ops so I am hoping to be back at the office pain free by early next year.
Ken Thurms good wife Tina has had the knee replacement surgery also and has been ever so helpful and supportive to me since I first commented on here about my sore knees.

Two replacements at once is scarey,at least for me. I manufactured hip and knee replacement parts way back in the 70's. We worked with the Drs. and Engineers in producing the right size for the individual receiving the transplant. The materials used back then were titanium and chrome colbolt. Ceramic came along later and I understand it is best.

Like you my knees are to the point of replacing,just waiting it out I hate surgery.:eek: Good Luck and prayers for the Misses.

Here's just a brief comment. My wife had both knees done at the same time, TWICE! The first time she ended up knock-kneed and seemed worse than before the double operation. Then she/we shopped around for another surgeon and found a very good one who did it right the second time. It is at least a month for recovery and a lot of painful rehab so check out the reputation of your surgeon and get it done right the first time!
