Whenever I have heard about someone being burned badly I can only imagine how painful and uncomfortable it must be. Anyone who has had a bad sunburn can only guess at what it must be like. I've gotten hot sparks from a cutting torch or plasma cutter down my shoe a lot of times, so what Pat is feeling must be really tough. Poor guy.
Pat sounded pretty good on the phone, but I think the pain killers were helping a little. Sure are sorry to see him, or anyone, go through something like this.

I know years ago when I had some bad burns they put me in a tub with Dreft baby diaper laundry deterdgent. and the burnt skin floated off. But if his shirt is burnt into the skin, they will probably have to scub that off and that ain't gonna be any fun.
I really feel for him right now, I hope they give him that morphine button.

I remember this guy that came in to my parent's tavern all the time. I always noticed him coming in because he didn't swing his left arm at all as he walked. Short version of it is, he worked in a metal shop and had a Bic butane lighter in his shirt pocket, welding slag popped in there and melted a hole right through the plastic lighter. It didn't explode, but did fireball and the end result is the front of his shoulder looked like melted Tupperware.
When I first saw this title,I thought it was a old thread that someone dug up.
Pat is a corner stone of this forum.

Ya I remember once working in a machine shop as a young kid,had a full pack of matches in my front pocket.I was grinding some parts on a bench grinder and the sparks started them on fire.Burnt a big round hole in my shirt.I did;nt get hurt,but I never kept matches in my shirt pocket after that.

Obviously, you have a whole gang of admirers here and all of them are thinking about you.
Richard said fire scares the beJesus out of him, and it has the same effect on me. Maybe some day we can sit down over a bottle or two of something and I'll tell you about how I tried to burn down my house last year.
Your injury will probably have a negative effect on your work output for a while but it shouldn't keep you from making your wisdom, your advice, your knowledge and your humor available to those of us who read everything you write.

Just got off the phone with Pat.He is sore but his spirits are up.They are trying to get the last layers of skin off with the pieces of shirt burnt in to it.The wound has to be totally clean before he can come home.He is hoping to be home in a couple of days.He said to thank everyone in the Club Hot Rod family for you'r thoughts and prayers.

Fire scares the bejesus out of me too. I've had lots of welding spatter and welding rod burns (it taught me to watch where I put my hand down - and where I sit), but never a serious fire. Get well soon, Pat.

this is the sort of thing that has slowed me down. i'm sneaking up on 60 and really have to watch it. double check everything and don't trust my memory at all. falling seems to be my problem. damn big feet tangle with everything. but yes we need to be diligent at this age. real easy to get hurt bad with all these weapons.

I'm sorry to hear of this. Being on fire is one of the scariest things I can think of, not to mention the pain.

Good News People,Pat McCarthy has left the hospital.2:45 Michigan time.He was on his way home.He is still in a lot of pain and will be for quit some time.He should be returning to Club Hot Rod Fourms anytime now.Thank God this accident wasn't any worse,all you rodders be carefull out in you'r shops.

well first thanks to all who posted and sent me there best and the ones who have help me financially God bless you all .as for my body i will never be a swim suit model so i lost that job :3dSMILE: less someone needs a guy with walk around map of Russia on his back .i will be down for some time. i will have to stay clean and dry for sometime till the doc saids things are looking good . i just did get home . the drugs were not that good. take my word for it getting your skin pull off two time s a day for over 5 days gets very old very fast . all this should heal in time . but the feeling of the shirts getting burned off my back may never go away. like mark said i ran miles of wire /rod it was not my day. THANK YOU
